Wish I’da read this in the 1980s as a young person. Great insights and analysis, applicable to all people in relationships with partners, family, co-workers. My only issue was the narrator, whose voice/theatrical accent grated on me.

Compelling Tho Churchy Memoir of a Rape Victim

The author relates her struggle for peace after a sexual assault. While her chosen path is devote Catholicism, she raises pressing arguments against the existence of a God who allows evil. The book was way too religious for this reader, but worth the seven hours listen time cuz there is lots of secular and family-dynamics content. Fantastic narration by the author's sister gives the story an especially intimate feel.

Comprehensible Intro To Astrophysics

Four hours of cosmology, history, time travel, antimatter, strings, and more. Worth the listen, though still pretty dense. Recommended if you want to think big thoughts!

This book offers a sweeping histories of Islamic literature, north African culture and the recent rise of terrorism/anarchy in the region, while documenting how a small group of dedicated Malians saved literally hundreds of thousands of religious and secular manuscripts from falling into the possession of Al-Queda warlords in Timbuktu. Gripping, relevant and hopeful!

David Silverman's convincing book showcases all the reasons why he was an effective leader in the atheist movement. He displays a deep understanding of American law and scriptural traditions, then uses nuanced, common-sense arguments against deists and theocracy. Especially in these times of encroaching religious revival - especially from the Trump administration - this book is a must-read.

Introduction To The Corruption Of Modern Russia

Bill Browder's gripping memoir takes him from the streets of Chicago to Stanford Business School to Warsaw, Murmansk and Moscow as he becomes one of the first Western investors in the privatization of post-Soviet Eastern Europe. But things go south after Vladimir Putin takes power and puts the squeeze on not only Russian oligarchs but also Western financiers... specifically the author. When one of Browder's associates is detained, tortured and killed in a Russian prison, the author's life changes for good as he leads an international campaign for accountability and justice.

The narrator is awesome in his delivery and his voicings of accents from around the world. But he needs to review the pronunciation of "in absentia", which he consistently misreads as "in abstentia".

Starting with Europe and the Treaty of Westphalia, then moving region by region around the globe, the elder statesman helps us come to grips with today's geopolitical realities. Completed in 2014, it is still very relevant to today's Trumpian era. And the chapter on cyberspace is remarkably well-reasoned and detailed. Whether you're a college student or an adult citizen of the world, this book will bring clarity to the often overwhelming and complex data points of modernity.
