Historia
A Woman of Endurance, set in nineteenth-century Puerto Rican plantation society, follows Pola, a deeply spiritual African woman who is captured and later sold for the purpose of breeding future slaves. The resulting babies are taken from her as soon as they are born. Pola loses the faith that has guided her and becomes embittered and defensive. The dehumanizing violence of her life almost destroys her. But this is not a novel of defeat but rather one of survival, regeneration, and reclamation of common humanity.

Historia
Harriet Tubman is one of the giants of American history - a fearless visionary who led scores of her fellow slaves to freedom and battled courageously behind enemy lines during the Civil War. And yet in the century since her death, next to nothing has been written about this extraordinary woman aside from juvenile biographies. The truth about Harriet Tubman has become lost inside a legend woven of racial and gender stereotypes.

Where is Mrs. Tubman????
Revisado: 03-31-22
I wanted to learn more about Mrs. Tubman as I listened to this novel but she is sadly missing from most of the story. This is about everything else but her- she’s thrown in during some of the story. Disappointing!!!!

Historia
Stephen Smith is the boy who did not exist. Born out of wedlock in the early 1960s, Steve's parents - both devout Catholics - had felt so 'shamed' by their son's illegitimate birth that they hid him away from the world by locking him in the cellar...for 13 years. Apart from a few admissions to hospital as a result of his 'imprisonment', Steve remained in the coal cellar of the family home where he was deprived of daylight, his childhood, school and human contact until he'd reached his teenage years.

This Narrator 😳😢
Revisado: 03-26-22
This narrator has the power to destroy any story… he’s dull, monotonous and lacks the emotion/passion the story needs. I have to stop purchasing books he narrators which includes many of the Poldark series. Too disappointed.

Narrator disappointing!!!
Revisado: 03-26-22
I have watched the entire TV series twice so I have no doubt the book will be excellent. I’m just starting this novel and I don’t think I can finish it because the narrator is so monotonous and his voice lacks passion/ depth for the character of Ross. - ROSS was a force of nature-
