Not Everything is Rosey in This Book
Revisado: 02-26-03
Having listened to both 1st to Die and 2nd Chance by James Patterson, I purchased this book with great expectations. Those expectations were quickly deflated as I found this book disappointing. I didn't feel a very real conncetion with the characters and the plot seemed contrived. Needless to say, it simply was not worth listening to. I only got 3/4 of the way through and completely lost interest.
This book simply does not have the plot needed to draw one through its length, whether abridged or not. My recommendation, skip it.

Historia
In lower Manhattan, a charnel pit of horror is uncovered: the remains of 36 people murdered and gruesomely dismembered over 130 years ago by an unknown serial killer. Just as a museum archaeologist and an enigmatic FBI agent begin to unravel the clues to the killings, a fresh spree of copy-cat murders and surgical mutilation erupts around them. Mixing science and terror in a way only they can, Preston and Child deliver a novel that's as gruesome as it is enthralling.

This Book is a True Curiosity!!
Revisado: 02-26-03
The plot of this book has so many twists and turns that I, a seasoned mystery afficianado, was frequently left guessing or surprised. I listened to this book and was absolutely captivated. I made CDs of it and both my husband and parents listened to it and were captivated as well.
It fills the niche for lovers of many different types of stories: histrical, mystery, and a little bit of horror. The plot feels thoroughly researched and is incredibly believable. Judging from the reactions of myself and the 3 people I loaned it to, I don't think anyone will be disappointed.
Caution: Graphic and frequently freightening details...not for young listeners.

Not a Book to be Kept in the Attic
Revisado: 02-26-03
This book is an intriguing and highly engrossing journey through the eyes of Civil War reinactors. Being a Civil War buff, I expected to find this book interesting. What I found instead was a book that engrossed me completely. I learned so many things about Civil War battles and just average soldiers that I had never expected. The great thing about this book is that it is coming through the eyes of an outsider to the whole reinactment experience, so one gets a picture that is not initially biased.
You will be amazed at the lengths the "hard cores" go through to really live the authentic experience! You will also learn about race relations in today's South...pertinent issues that may get swept aside in the fray of current news.
If you enjoy the Civil War, listen to this book. If you don't know if you enjoy the Civil War, listen to this book. It is an experience that truly makes learning fun!!
