Historia
Rowan's attempt to escape Lasher and his pursuit of her and their child are at the heart of this extraordinary saga. It is a novel that moves around the globe, backward and forward through time, and between the human and demonic worlds. Its many voices - of women, of men, of demons and angels, present and past - haunt and enchant us. With a dreamlike power, the novel draws us through twilight paths, telling a chillingly hypnotic story of occult and spiritual aspirations and passion.

Thrilling, beautiful, & disturbing
Revisado: 03-21-25
What a fantastic follow up to The Witching Hour! The story picks up right where it left off and delivers answers to all the questions left after book 1. Ann's writing style is like poetry and the narrator did a phenomenal job. Each character sounded distinct and believable and recording quality was clear and crisp. Trigger warning for sexual assault, underage sex, and incest. You've been warned ⚠️

Historia
Anne Rice's richly told novel weaves an irresistible story of two worlds: the witches' world and the vampires' world, where magical powers and otherworldly fascinations are locked together in a dance of seduction, death, and rebirth.

Wondeful Story, Terrible Recording
Revisado: 08-14-24
I put this book off after feeling burnt out from the last 2 titles in the series (Memnoch & Body Thief). Those 2 were alright but not my favorites. I was worried the rest of The Vampire Chronicles might only get worse. I was very wrong! Merrick got me excited about the chronicles again and now I'm also interested in checking out The Mayfair Witches. This story was so good! David Talbot easily carried as the main character, which was another worry I had, and Merrick is a wondeful new character in the beautiful world Rice has created. Now as far as the recording goes, it's rough. It sounds like he recorded this book underwater! I had to turn my volume almost all the way up to listen. Such a shame considering the book is fantastic and his reading was great. It didn't ruin the experience, but none the less disappointing.

"[ Memnoch] is one of Rice's most intriguing and sympathetic characters to date. . . . Rice ups the ante, taking Lestat where few writers have ventured: into heaven and hell itself. She carries it off in top form."( The Seattle Times)

Overly religious side story
Revisado: 10-20-23
This book felt like a weird side story that had nothing to do with vampires. So insanely overly religious I felt like I was listening to a Bible story. Anne's take on the story of creation was interesting but felt so far removed from the previous books in the series. Also, I could hardly stand Lestat in this book. He just cries and whines the entire time and it felt nothing like the brat prince we've come to know and love. Definitely my least favorite of the series so far.

Historia
In the latest installment of The Vampire Chronicles, Anne Rice summons up dazzling worlds to bring us the story of Armand—eternally young, with the face of a Botticelli angel. We go with Armand across the centuries to the Kiev Rus of his boyhood - a ruined city under Mongol dominion—and to ancient Constantinople, where Tartar raiders sell him into slavery. And in a magnificent palazzo in the Venice of the Renaissance we see him emotionally and intellectually in thrall to the great vampire Marius.

Not my favorite Vampire Chronicle
Revisado: 10-20-23
After struggling to finish the previous book, Memnoch The Devil, I was disappointed to discover this was a direct continuation of that story. Getting Armands back story and his time spent in Venice was lovely, but the religious overtones that drag on and on made it a difficult listen. If you're into Christianity you might not mind, but I didn't start reading a series about Vampires to delve into Christian lore. It's making me wonder if I want to even continue the series. The new narrator was jarring at first and took me some time to adjust. but I appreciate having a different voice since the POV has switched from Lestat to Armand.
