Historia
Set in the prewar Indochina of Marguerite Duras's childhood, this is the haunting tale of a tumultuous affair between an adolescent French girl and her Chinese lover. In spare yet luminous prose, Duras evokes life on the margins of Saigon in the waning days of France's colonial empire, and its representation in the passionate relationship between two unforgettable outcasts.

Historia
Living and slaving in Fill City One, you get used to the smell. We call it the Everpresent Stink. But every once in a while, on a spring day with a breeze, it clears away enough to remind us that there is something more out there. Most Fillers' wildest dreams would be just to get past the walls and live in the mainland. But my dream? It’s a little bigger. I’m going to Mars.

Interesting tangle

The villain got off the ship right before takeoff but suddenly rejoined the crew in orbit with no adequate explanation.
The ending was odd.
Great story despite the problems.
Excellent presenter who added her musical talents to her reading.

It is not necessary to learn Chinese to learn how to properly pronounce the names of so many places and characters in the story. It would take even less effort to pronounce them the same wrong way every time. Stop being so lazy in preparation. At least have the decency to learn how to pronounce the author’s name.

Historia
Lee Strobel became convinced that God was outmoded. Today science is supports the conclusion that the universe was intelligently designed. Darwinism has faltered in the face of facts and hard reason. Science definitely gives faith a boost as new findings emerge about the complexity of our universe. Strobel re-examines the theories that once led him away from God. You'll encounter discoveries from cosmology, DNA research, and human consciousness that present evidence in The Case for a Creator.

Historia
Caitlin Decter is young, pretty, feisty, a genius at math - and blind. Still, she can surf the net with the best of them, following its complex paths clearly in her mind. But Caitlin's brain long ago co-opted her primary visual cortex to help her navigate online. So when she receives an implant to restore her sight, instead of seeing reality, the landscape of the World Wide Web explodes into her consciousness, spreading out all around her in a riot of colors and shapes.

Intriguing setting set back slightly - great story
Revisado: 02-21-12
Would you consider the audio edition of WWW to be better than the print version?
probably, but the mispronunciations severely inhibit understanding early on.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Kaitlyn is a very compelling intellectual with human frailty.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
It's disturbing with the thousands if not millions of qualified English speakers (even if limited to Canada) raised in Chinese speaking households that would have correctly pronounced the words that refer to the part of the story taking place there, if the North Americans butcher the pronunciation, it's severely distracting when the Chinese personages in the story do not know how to pronounce Chinese references.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Some laughter for sure, but it gets better in the other books.
Any additional comments?
For some reason, the author uses the Chinese when referring to the national firewall as 'chang cheng' instead of the english used elsewhere (The Great Wall)
