Not the right narrator
Revisado: 02-20-25
The replacement narrator ruined it for me. Sorry. The previous narrator wasn’t my fav, so I was happy to get a new one, then wished for the old one back.

Level 9,000 narration, again.
Level 9,000 creativity, again.
After 16 books I’m still invested in these characters. I don’t know how much more going to manage waiting for #17.

He’s inside my own Head!
Revisado: 08-06-24
I felt like I was listening to someone talk about a ton of things I’ve thought about throughout my life, only with much greater detail and accuracy, and depth into the same topics, then myself. The last 2 chapters tie it all together wonderfully so I had to listen to them repeatedly.

Creative, Surprising
Revisado: 01-29-18
Excellent, creative and clever story, with surprises along the way. Much better writing than the standard issue contemporary sci fi where it’s Joe Average recounting sexcapades and battle.
The narrator does her best, but took some getting used to. Wasn’t a dealbreaker, though.

Historia
Unorthodox success principles from a billionaire entrepreneur and philanthropist.
Eli Broad's embrace of "unreasonable thinking" has helped him build two Fortune 500 companies, amass personal billions, and use his wealth to create a new approach to philanthropy. He has helped to fund scientific research institutes, K-12 education reform, and some of the world's greatest contemporary art museums. By contrast, "reasonable" people come up with all the reasons something new and different can't be done, because, after all, no one else has done it that way.

Not Unreasonable
Revisado: 03-23-13
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend it as an autobiography, not as any kind of "how to" book.
What did you like best about this story?
His life story is interesting.
Any additional comments?
This is a book about how Eli Broad built himself an empire, but it does not cover any great amount of detail. You could not use it as a template or how-to guide. There are a few chapters that are intended as lessons, and those are good. He is blunt and to the point, doesn't have time to waste and is always moving forward.

Good, but a little pushy
Revisado: 03-12-13
Where does Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The narrator's pronunciation, and enunciation was excellent. So good that I spent quite a bit of time paying attention to it, haha.
The content of the book was very good up until the last chapter, on God. If you're not a Judeo-Christian then you're not going to relate to it.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that she gives actual strategies and practical advice for many scenarios.
Which character – as performed by Cecelia Riddett – was your favorite?
There were no characters, it's an educational book with numerous case-studies.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
N/A.
Any additional comments?
The author can be pretty closed-minded or judgemental in some cases. I can see that being a result of her practice where she has seen so many cases that lead her to these conclusions, but I have to disagree with a few of her ideas/solutions. For example, as someone who has no belief in any kind of God(s), I do not feel that any God is necessary to raise a strong daughter. What is necessary are the good lessons and positive examples. People often confuse religion and God with good teachings. The only thing that I like about any religion are the lessons on being good to one another.

An instant best seller that is poised to become a classic, Moonwalking with Einstein recounts Joshua Foer's yearlong quest to improve his memory under the tutelage of top "mental athletes". He draws on cutting-edge research, a surprising cultural history of remembering, and venerable tricks of the mentalist's trade to transform our understanding of human memory. From the United States Memory Championship to deep within the author's own mind, this is an electrifying work of journalism that reminds us that, in every way that matters, we are the sum of our memories.

I was expecting so much more...
Revisado: 01-13-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would change the part where there is no real instruction. THAT is what I wanted to learn, not just his journey.
Would you be willing to try another book from Joshua Foer? Why or why not?
I am reluctant to do so after this one because he really led me to believe that I was going to learn what he had learned. Instead, this book built up towards some really useful information that never appeared. It felt like a sales pitch at that point.
Did Moonwalking with Einstein inspire you to do anything?
It inspired me to google more on the topic because I was left unsatisfied.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I recommend this all the time. Robert Greene structures complicated ideas and concepts in ways that are understandable - like he is taking my obfuscated thoughts and organizing them so that I can make use of my own knowledge, and gain more in the process.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It woke me up.
