Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

This is certainly not a 4.8 book
Revisado: 02-11-24
I have read or listened to a lot of science fiction and fantasy over 50 years and I picked this book based on its high ratings…..this story/writing just leaves a lot to be desired. The storyline is just OK, and, as others have said, the premise seems to be lifted directly from Ursula LeGuinn’s dragon riders books. Ursula is a much better writer. It seemed that for a large portion of the time I was reading an adolescent or/young adult book. The two main characters are interesting, but there is so much going back and forth in their own heads about where their relationship is that it often sounds like you’re inside the mind of two highschoolers. I know that sounds harsh, but the last third of the book has a significant amount of that. I considered putting the book aside, but the story was just interesting enough to finish and plot twists at the end, as expected, leave the reader, some anticipation for the follow up book. Of note is that there are significant graphic sex episodes in the second half of the book and it’s not something you would want to be reading out loud to your 12-year-old and stumble upon. I personally wouldn’t wish it on an emotionally healthy 16-year-old.
Of note is that the characters are in their young 20s so the sexual tension is appropriate but their thinking seems so repetitive and juvenile.

Historia
Civil war looms in the Bobiverse in this brand-new, epic-length adventure by Audible number one best seller Dennis E. Taylor. More than a hundred years ago, Bender set out for the stars and was never heard from again. There has been no trace of him despite numerous searches by his clone-mates. Now Bob is determined to organize an expedition to learn Bender’s fate - whatever the cost. But nothing is ever simple in the Bobiverse. Bob’s descendants are out to the 24th generation now, and replicative drift has produced individuals who can barely be considered Bobs anymore.

Could have been a much shorter book
Revisado: 06-10-23
The performance of the reading, as usual was great. The multiple chase scenes were not at all necessary. The wrapup was a consistent and thoughtful one, but the book is definitely not a page turner, like the previous ones because the story was so drawn out. I could summarize it in a long paragraph, but that would“give it away“ I enjoyed the first three books of Bob, and would not specifically recommend this one. No big surprises.

Historia
Is it possible to disagree politically and love unconditionally? The reaction of evangelicals to political and cultural shifts in recent years revealed what they value most. Lurking beneath our Bible-laced rhetoric, faith claims, books, and sermons is a relentless drive to WIN! But the church is not here to win. By every human measure, our Savior lost. On purpose. With a purpose. And we are his body. We are not in it to win anything. We are in it for something else entirely. That something else is what this book is about.

Best Christian book I have read in the last 10 or 20 years on specific direction in motivation for the believers and for church
Revisado: 04-15-23
Andy Stanley has always been a great communicator, but an application of these Jesus and apostle-driven biblical principles by all different types, denominations, and cultures of Christian believers would have the world changing effects. I can’t emphasize enough how important I think it is not only for Christians to read this book, but to react to it, and by loving one, another, decreasing division in the church, and acting out in non-violent, passionately respectful, spirit and conscious, driven love.
This is not a vague, pie-in-the-sky set of propositions, but as Andy Stanley, so vigorously points out, the fulfilling of the new covenant established by Jesus. Please read the book. It’s a five hour listen. And it can become a sustaining renewal for the church.

Historia
We are in the midst of a global mental health crisis, and mental illnesses are on the rise. But what causes mental illness? And why are mental health problems so hard to treat? Drawing on decades of research, Harvard psychiatrist Dr. Chris Palmer outlines a revolutionary new understanding that for the first time unites our existing knowledge about mental illness within a single framework: mental disorders are metabolic disorders of the brain. Brain Energy will transform the field of mental health, and the lives of countless people around the world.

Potentially culture changing in the world changing insights
Revisado: 02-19-23
The de medicalization of mental illness and chronic disease that moves them both into the same category of physiology……Mitochondrial energy malfunctions. Why does this change matter so much? because of the common things that we can do very much in our own behaviors and social choices, to heal, maintain, prevent and even cure, perhaps many of the things that we call disease. I am a physician who spent over 40 years in primary care, and this new view verifies everything I have seen over that time. I agree it is a little drawn out and long-over the first 2/3 of the book, but multiple repetition and multiple explanations with are needed to make the claims that he ultimately makes for therapies. I hope this information is read widely, used in public policy, and taught thoroughly in all the physiological and medical sciences.

Historia
"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Within this audiobook, you’ll find a fascinating road map to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

…if you let it.
Diagnosis of cultural and personal chaos.
Treatment options which sound radical based on following Jesus.
An “easy yoke” of slowing, simplicity, sabbath rest, silence and solitude.
VERY practical but difficult suggestions.
Everyone will get something out of this book.

Read this for the great writing and the hard topic covered well
Revisado: 08-05-21
The author does a good job reading this, her own experience of growing up sexually abused by her father, in a dysfunctional family. It’s a great picture of the periods of life that the children go through in terms of how and why this can happen. A great read for anyone But especially people who work with kids, adolescents and traumatized young adults.

Even better practical suggestions. If you do nothing else read the last chapter. Takes about 40 minutes but you can even skim through that for ideas. The main issue is putting these ideas into practice. Practice means we take action as the elements God’s action on earth!

Edward Snowden deserves the Nobel prize
Revisado: 09-10-20
And I think it should be the Nobel peace prize because of what his regulations have accomplished, and the way he went about making his revelations in a peaceful fashion. I hope the history continues to show what a selfless act was accomplished without Regards to his personal pleasure or positions or possessions. This book is an absolute must read. And now someone somewhere gathering data will see this and put me on a watchlist :-)

Historia
This is the 1956 version of New Testament Christianity by author JB Phillips. In this book Phillips examines the life of the Young Church (book of Acts) and the New Testament writers. He challenges the listeners to adopt the blazing certainty of the unconquerable fellowship displayed in the early Church. If the individual followers of today's modern Church would emulate their radical faith, hope, love, and peace our world would truly be fragrant with the "aroma of Christ".

Predictable, narrative heavy, good performance. Won’t continue the series. Many similar better series of oppressed people/ ethnic groups with “special” members rising to the rescue. Main characters have little strength or consistency.
