I love this book! It’s a historical Christian romance, beautifully written, immersive and captivating. It feels like you’re entering into Olivia’s life, experiencing her many struggles and witnessing the day to day life of a governess.

The story itself has a lot going on, with intrigue, danger, and even a bit of mystery. The characters have depth and the relationships are well developed. There is also a solid Christian message covering redemption, grace, and God’s love.

I highly recommend the book to anyone who enjoys historical romances.

Content:
So now for the warning… there are many sexual assaults in this book. There are instances of infidelity, rape, and men of rank sexually abusing servants. Those incidents that occur outside of the FMC have limited detail provided. Incidents involving the FMC are more descriptive, but she is rescued from them.

There is no foul language and limited violence. The romance does not go beyond lightly descriptive kissing. This is a Christian book with emphasis on prayer, faith, and God.

This is a pleasant and sweet regency romance. There isn’t a whole lot of action, but there are great characters and the story is enjoyable and low stress. Mabel did seem overly self-conscious about her height and the emphasis placed on it felt excessive, but that’s probably just me (as I’m quite tall and, it would seem, surprisingly well adjusted 😜).

The narrator is excellent!

What a gripping story! I loved this one. It's a regency romance, but full of action, suspense, and danger. The story is different and engaging. The MMC is a smuggler looking to leave that life behind, but finding himself manipulated into it by his father. The FMC is charming, adventurous, and refreshingly blunt in her opinions and interactions. Both are awesome characters and easy to love.

My only disappointment is in the ending, which is quite abrupt and left many unanswered questions. It really needed another chapter before the epilogue. What happened with William's father, his new occupation, his acceptance into the community, their new home and life, Pippa's dowry, Lily? There were too many loose ends, making it feel rather unfinished and unfulfilling... But since the book was otherwise perfect, it still gets a very solid 5 stars.

Highly recommended!

This is a thoroughly enjoyable rom-com, one of my favorite of the series. There are many lol moments between Grams, the Palmer/Sawyer rivalry, and Beau and Gemma’s banter. I typically dislike the enemies-to-lovers trope, but this one really works. The characters are a lot of fun, and the romance is sweet.

Yes, the ending might be a tad cheesy, but it’s a rom-com… and that adorable epilogue dance sure made up for it 😁

Definitely recommended to those who enjoy a contemporary sweet rom-com.

Content:
There’s no foul language, violence, or sex. The romance is clean with only mildly descriptive kissing and ogling. There is no mention of faith or God.

What a fun ride. There are actually 3 stories spun into this book, the primary and 2 penny dreadfuls. It’s a wild ride of secret identities, mystery, and adventure. Yes, it’s quite corny at times, not attempting to take itself too seriously… but it works 🤓

The MMC is a leading member of the Dread Penny Society, a secret organization of authors seeking to save the poor and oppressed of society. Their efforts are often dangerous and somewhat unlawful. The FMC is a reputable headmistress of a girls school by day, and a top writer of questionable penny dreadfuls by night. Cue the romance and adventure.

Recommended to those who enjoy a light and fun historical romance.

The narrator is most excellent.

Content:
There is no foul language or sex. There is some violence but it’s not excessive. The romance is limited to a couple chaste kisses. There is no mention of faith or God.

Trigger warning:
Human trafficking and child abuse (valiantly fought by the Dread Penny Society)

This is the most unique Beauty and The Beast retelling I’ve ever read. I thoroughly enjoyed all of Melanie Cellier’s Kingdoms series and was excited to come across this new one. I’m happy to report that Cellier did not disappoint! The world is so imaginative and fun. There is a great cast of eclectic characters and plenty of action to hold my attention.

I admit, the beginning is a little confusing in how it jumps straight into the legacy, but it clears up quickly. I also found Rosalie to be rather mean and unlikeable in those beginning chapters, but that too clears up and all is well.

For those who enjoy listening, the audiobook narrator is excellent.

Content:
There is no foul language or sex, and the violence is minimal. The romance is limited to a couple chaste kisses. A female character is abducted twice but rescued. There is no mention of faith or God.

I was admittedly hesitant to start this book as I rarely enjoy the enemies-to-lovers trope and the overly and unrealistically combative nature of those romances. And so, as expected, this was not my favorite Kasey Stockton book.

I did not care for Thea’s character or how she treated Benedict. I understand she had reservations about his flirting, but she merely needed to friend-zone him and make it clear she wasn’t interested in him romantically. She didn’t need to be mean and hostile (certainly not without telling him why). He was nothing but kind and caring towards her, and even she admitted he was a good and honorable guy. Her character and behavior caused me to struggle through much of the book.

That said, this is still Kasey Stockton, so still a well written and engaging book. My enjoyment of it significantly increased the further I got, and I especially loved the ending.

Book 3 with Henry is going to be awesome! 🤓

This is a fun and engaging story. The characters are great and the romance is sweet. Both MCs are secret authors writing under pen names. The two strike a mutually beneficial agreement - Marianne will help Henry add a romantic interest to his action adventure story (required by his publisher), and Henry will help Marianne overcome her publishing hurdles. There are plenty of Pride and Prejudice references, and I especially enjoyed Marianne teaching Henry’s uncouth pirate how to woo his lady.

Perhaps it’s not the deepest or most thought provoking book out there, but it’s well written and I really enjoyed reading it.

This is a cute Christian rom-com. It’s funny and sweet. I like how both MCs have physical conditions (Evangeline’s alopecia and Ty’s asthma) that set them apart from the standard MC picture of perfection. Much of the book is Evangeline overcoming her struggle with self worth and past rejection. It gets a little frustrating at times, but not unrealistic.

The ending is perhaps a bit cheesy but not over the top… And I won’t get into how improbable Ty’s perfect character is ☺️

A super sweet regency romance

A very enjoyable book. It’s a super sweet regency romance, and though a little slow at times, it firmly held my attention. The FMC, Felicity, has a great deal of empathy but suffers from social anxiety and a complete lack of confidence. She is quick to sacrifice her own needs and desires for others, and much of the story is about her growth in overcoming her insecurities. Her and James are strangers forced into marriage to protect their reputations. James is perhaps a little TOO perfect, as only a fictional MMC can be, but he’s so sweet and charming that it’s impossible not too love him… And really, this is a romance novel written for a female audience, so who’s really going to complain 😊

For those who enjoy listening, the audiobook narrator is excellent.
