Good history and biased commentary
Revisado: 01-11-20
The book provides a good history of many speculative bubbles. Unfortunately, the commentary focuses a lot on the excesses of the speculators without discussing the manipulation of the market by central banks and expansion of money. People have to speculate when their money is being debased by the authorities in foolish pursuit of financing social experiments and war.

Historia
Meet a genuine American folk hero cut from the homespun cloth of America's heartland: Sam Walton, who parlayed a single dime store in a hardscrabble cotton town into Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the world. The undisputed merchant king of the late 20th century, Sam never lost the common touch. Here, finally, inimitable words. Genuinely modest, but always sure of his ambitions and achievements. Sam shares his thinking in a candid, straight-from-the-shoulder style. In a story rich with anecdotes and the "rules of the road" of both Main Street and Wall Street, Sam Walton chronicles the inspiration, heart, and optimism that propelled him to lasso the American Dream.

Historia
Despite being immensely popular - and immensely lucrative - education is grossly overrated. In this explosive book, Bryan Caplan argues that the primary function of education is not to enhance students' skill but to certify their intelligence, work ethic, and conformity - in other words, to signal the qualities of a good employee.

The Education System is a waste
Revisado: 08-07-18
Do we really need to spend all these years in different school levels and college to get jobs?
Mr. Caplan proves in this book that the answer is no. In reality, degrees provide signals to employers of certain skills such as hard work and conformity. Most of nontechnical degrees give people knowledge they will quickly forget and and none of this knowledge is translated to actual job skills. Employers look for college graduates because in a world where everyone thinks that college is important, those who drop out send clear negative signals.
Mr. Caplan uses research and surveys from different fields to come to his conclusions. Its an interesting read that I hope will make us question the resources we waste on college education in its current form and the years of production we lose by keeping young people in schools for increasing number of years instead of letting them join the work force and actual contribute to the economy.

Historia
The rise of the Tea Party and the 2010 election results revealed that tens of millions of Americans are alarmed by big government but skeptical that anything can or will be done to stop the growth of the state. In Free Market Revolution, the keepers of Ayn Rand’s legacy argue that the answer lies in Rand’s pioneering philosophy of capitalism and self-interest—a philosophy that more and more people are turning to for answers.

Moral defense of capitalism
Revisado: 06-20-17
The authors use Ayn Rand's philosophy to explain the capitalism is not only superior due to the wealth it creates but because it is morally superior. Many people on the right make the mistake of defending capitalism on the grounds of the good it does to the economy which is a collectivist argument, this book takes a better approach. It uses moral argument based on Ayn Rand's work to explain the moral superiority of capitalism.
I highly recommend this book after you read atlas shrugged.

Good to learn about the problem not for solutions
Revisado: 05-08-17
The author analyzing the illegal drugs trade from business perspective. The book is very interesting because it outlines the different aspects of running a business such as supply chains, Public Relation, and Human Resources and how do they apply to the illegal drug business.
The main downside of the book is when the author discusses solutions in the end of some chapters and at the last chapter. The author has a clear bias for government action although the whole problem is with the government decision to outlaw these drugs in the first place.

Historia
Intellectuals and Race is a radical book in the original sense - one that goes to the root of the problem. The role of intellectuals in racial strife is explored in an international context that puts the American experience in a wholly new light. The book explores the incentives, the visions, and the rationales that drive intellectuals at the highest levels to conclusions that have often turned out to be counterproductive and even disastrous, not only for particular racial or ethnic groups but for societies as a whole.

Thomas Sowell tackles the race myths
Revisado: 04-27-17
This is a short book about the intellectuals and race. Thomas Sowell discusses the issue of race and demonstrates that the issue is pretty superficial issue used by intellectuals and politicians to avoid discussing deeper cultural issues.
He starts the book by an overview of race and progress through examples from several civilizations to show that the same race can succeed in one setting under certain cultural norms while failing under different cultural norms.
He also outline how the progressives moved from advocating sterilization of unproductive races to blaming racism for all the failures of minority races while ignoring other minorities that prospered while facing even harsher racism such as the asian minority in the United States.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn the truth about race.

The financial crisis and the free market cure
Revisado: 04-23-17
In this book, John Allison the former BB&T CEO explains the reasons for the financial crisis of 2007-2008: Government intervention and support for Cronies such as Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac. He provides hid perspective a responsible bank CEO that saw all the distortions the government created to support fancy political goals of expanding home ownership. Every government action is usually a scheme to buy the votes of some sector of the electorate and this book provides some history into that. He goes over several aspects of the financial system and explains the history of government intervention and the bad incentives it added to the system.
He also explains the cure of true free market where everyone is left to pursue his goals as long as he doesn't use coercion against other. Mr. Allison demonstrates how a combination of pragmatism and misguided altruism drove us away from the principles that this country was built on such as liberty and limited government towards statism and redistribution. He correctly advocates for the return to these founding principles through education.
