Historia
When the matriarch of the least successful Jewish family in America gets tired of their misfortune, she begins to consult mystical texts for help. Determined that their next born grandchild will be a genius who changes their fortunes, and convinced that no one in her clan is smart enough to raise a genius by themselves, she decides that the child will be passed from household to household to gain their collective wisdom.

Quirky and fun, A light and enjoyable diversion.
Revisado: 05-16-20
When the matriarch of a Jewish family in 1950's New York prophesises that the next child born into the family will be a genius, she decides that none of the family is smart enough to raise the child alone, and dictates that the entire extended family will take turns raising the child.
What ensues is a satirical look at the core nature of families and the individuals that make them up, that applies just as much to the average family today as to the family of this story - and that is what makes it so enjoyable. As the boy grows up living among various colorful family members, the reader is treated to many chuckles as the story unfolds and the young man comes of age.
Did the genius child learn something from each of the family members? Absolutely! Was it what the grandmother had envisioned the child learning? Absolutely not!
TJ Clark did a wonderful job of bringing life to all of the fun, wacky characters in this book . His voice was clear and pleasant, and he performed with an impressive range of characters, and the appropriate emotion. I would not hesitate a second to purchase another audiobook narrated by Clark.
This pairing of an amusing story and talented narrator made Cousins' Club a humorous and enjoyable audiobook, well worth the listen.

The ceremony itself promises to be the most glamorous social event of the decade. Snow White’s castle has been meticulously scrubbed, polished, and opulently decorated for the celebration. It is already nearly bursting with jubilant guests and merry well-wishers. Prince Edel, Raven's fiancé, is a fine man from a neighboring kingdom, and Snow White's own domain is prosperous and at peace.

A thoughtful sequel/re-telling of a classic tale
Revisado: 12-19-19
"...and they lived happily ever after." So many of our childhood fairy tale books ended with those words; but does anyone ever really get to have a "happily ever after"? What really happened to our beloved childhood characters after we closed their books?
In The Reflections of Queen Snow White, David Meredith writes a sequel of sorts, for the classic story of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs.
In Meredith's story we see Snow White, now a middle-aged queen and deeply depressed widow on the eve of her daughter Raven's marriage, too broken by grief to help plan the wedding. As she roams aimlessly through the castle, she stumbles upon her step-mother's mirror. Gazing into its depths, she is compelled to examine the truths of her past and how it has molded who she has become. Can she ever find happiness again now that her husband is gone?
I do enjoy a good fairy tale - all grown up and re-told, and this book was no exception. Couples do not often die peacefully and simultaneously in each-other's arms, and even the luckiest of us must deal with a certain amount of grief in this life. That is something that our childhood stories didn't always address or prepare us for,
Meredith has re-created Snow White as well as her relationship with Charming with depth and dimension; even the mirror is not what we would believe on the basis of our childhood readings. This book was an imaginative and well thought return to the kingdom of long ago and far away.
Narration for the story was provided by Robin Waters with a pleasant and clear tone, and she provided for an array of characters,
The Reflections of Queen Snow White, by David Meredith was a bitter-sweet re-visit to childhood favorite.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Revisado: 04-13-19
An enjoyable book combining the beauty of nature with the edge of a techno-thriller.
DJ Parker was on top of his game. Owner and CEO of a multi-billion dollar software company, he was about to release new technology that would see his star rise even further. He was on the verge of releasing a new bio-metric system with AI technology that would be completely game changing.
Shortly before the official release, DJ receives news that his father James has passed away. DJ had been estranged from his father for some time, due to philosophical differences in his father's work - Marine entertainment parks featuring live Orcas, also known as killer whales.
While attending to his father's estate, DJ learns that the gap in their differences was narrowing during their estrangement, and his father was conducting research hoping to prove the intelligence of these gentle sea creatures. Not only did the research have the potential to affect the future of marine parks, it had some results that could be applied to DJ's new technology. The effects of combining his father's work and his own, had the potential to change the way humans live and connect on a global scale. But a Russian group with ties to the Kremlin is willing to do anything to get this technology and twist it to their own nefarious goals.
The one thing that really stands out in this book, is the author's love and passion for Orcas and the preservation of their habitat. By creating a work of fiction around a subject he is passionate about, he has written a book that is at once entertaining and educating. I learned a fair bit about the Southern Resident Killer whales - their habitat, social structure, diet preferences, all the while being entertained. If seeing these magnificent creatures hadn't been on my bucket list before, it would be now.
The narration for this audiobook was performed by B.J. Harrison. His voice was clear, and he read with a pleasant tone and cadence. His character range made it easy to follow the story.
All said, an enjoyable story that makes me long to be by the ocean.

When growing up in 1980s Niagara Falls, aka Cataract City - a seedy but magical, slightly haunted place - one of Jake's closest confidants was his uncle Calvin, a sweet but eccentric misfit enamored of occult artifacts and outlandish conspiracy theories. The summer Jake turned 12, Calvin invited him to join the "Saturday Night Ghost Club" - a seemingly lighthearted project to investigate some of Cataract City's more macabre urban myths.

A good story - more dramatic than thrilling
Revisado: 11-08-18
this was a good story, but for me it fell more to the Dramatic General Fiction, than a Gripping Suspenseful Thriller. The story does have merit though. Families struggle in stressful times, and this story delves into the dynamics of a family that has experienced stress that we can only ever hope we do not experience ourselves. While the narrator has a pleasant, clear voice, I do not think he was a good match for this book.
