Boring
Revisado: 03-18-07
Regrettably, I found this story to be one of the most boring legal 'thrillers' I've ever read/listened to. I also found the narrator's male voices to be fairly silly, although her normal speaking voice was fine.

Historia
If Ridley Jones had slept 10 minutes later or had taken the subway instead of waiting for a cab, she would still be living the beautiful lie she used to call her life. She would still be the privileged daughter of a doting father and a loving mother. Her life would still be perfect, with only the tiny cracks of an angry junkie for a brother and a charming drunk with shady underworld connections for an uncle to mar the otherwise flawless whole.

boring
Revisado: 05-26-06
I've never listened to a story so deperately in need of abridgement - I think this collection of whiney, self-absorbed tripe could be whittled down to 10, maybe 15 pages max. Call me paranoid, but I can't allay my suspicions that the 5-Star reviewers either (a) listened to another book than I did, (b) are the author's friends or (c) all work for the publisher.

'Christian' courtroom drama
Revisado: 05-02-06
I wish I had read the description more carefully before buying this audiobook: this is a 'Christian' legal thriller, meaning that the story contains an abundance of completely unnecessary proselytizing that ruined any interest I might have had in it. If Jesus is your Saviour, then rejoice, this book is for you.

Historia
Pi Patel has been raised in a zoo in India. When his father decides to move the family to Canada and sell the animals to American zoos, everyone boards a Japanese cargo ship. The ship sinks, and 16-year-old Pi finds himself alone on a lifeboat with a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra with a broken leg, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon it's just Pi, the tiger, and the vast Pacific Ocean - for 227 days. Pi's fear, knowledge, and cunning keep him alive until they reach the coast of Mexico, where the tiger disappears into the jungle.

6 Stars
Revisado: 01-18-04
The other reviews have already expressed the power and strength of this novel. I'd had given it six stars, if possible. Pi Patel's story was meant to be 'told': here is an example where the spoken format is even more powerful than simply reading it would be.

Historia
The author takes us inside George Webb's -a divorced ex-policeman turned private investigator- mind. For one day, we see what Webb sees and know only what his thoughts reveals. We learn about his childhood and the secret it forced him to carry; the last moments with his ex-wife; his fall as a cop; the ease with which he has turned his police skills to the demands of his new profession. And we learn how those demands have put him in a league with a client, a woman he has come to love.

Sorry to say it, but: Boring
Revisado: 12-17-03
You should know that the story is told in a 'stream-of-consciousness' style, there isn't a plot to speak of, and no real mystery. The reader's voice is excellent, however, so if you're into literary experiments, go right ahead. I felt like I was caught in an endless loop, mainly because the narrator's observations are constantly repeated. About half-way through, I conducted my own experiment: 'Would fast-forwarding about an hour change anything to the story? Would I feel like I had missed anything?' No.

Fed up with the Republican Right? Then you'll love Al Franken's scathingly hilarious look at America's largest talk show host and his conservative cronies. Funny yet uncompromisingly fair, Franken tackles the issues - and the politicians - in ways few have dared.

Franken's take on Swift's A Modest Proposal (the bit about getting Medicare costs down) had me laughing out loud - satire at its best. The audio presentation is first quality and a pleasure to listen to.

Historia
Earth and its society have been changed irrevocably in the aftermath of Ender Wiggin's victory over the Formics. The unity forced upon the warring nations by an alien enemy has shattered. Nations are rising again, seeking territory and influence, and most of all, seeking to control the skills and loyalty of the children from the Battle School. But one person has a better idea. Peter Wiggin, Ender's older, more ruthless, brother, sees that any hope for the future of Earth lies in restoring a sense of unity and purpose. And he has an irresistible call on the loyalty of Earth's young warriors.

Yawn
Revisado: 07-09-03
I found the story to be somewhat 'long-winded' at times - not enough action, which certainly can't be said for Ender's Game. The characters, for example, seemed to spend far too much time pondering and worrying about what Achilles had done, was doing, was going to do. At other times, certain events seem particularly unbelievable - Bean and Petra, supposedly the brightest strategists on Earth, can't even keep their precious embryos safeguarded. Why? Because the guard they hired was bought off. Duuuhhhh! Think I'll go read Ender's Game again...
