A stunning love story
Revisado: 02-18-25
I downloaded this book without reading the summary because I love every book I’ve read by Amy Harmon..
I and wow. I’m glad I didn’t read the description because this type of story isn’t typically my cuppa.
Harmon tugs all the emotional strings. I had to pause every so often just to absorb all the feels. If you like a clean romance that wrenches you apart and puts you back together, this book is for you.
I’m adding this book to my all time favorites, which is a short list. Amy Harmon never disappoints!

Historia
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

An emotional read
Revisado: 12-16-24
Reads so much like a true story that I had to look it up. It is fiction. It was an emotionally wrenching story from start to finish, it left me wrung out and weepy. Med’s perspective is read in a bit of a monotone, matter of fact way, but I believe it’s meant to reflect a separation from the story he’s telling. Overington creates the characters and the plot in a way that tugs at your soul. It will make you want to check back in on the Atleys,

Historia
Brooklyn Anderson knows it looks bad. She was found wiping down a gun. His blood on her hands. Her father now dead. The incomprehensible nightmare has started. Seven days earlier, Brooklyn had returned to Eden to care for her beloved father, who lay helpless in a hospital bed. Her estranged sister, Ginny, said he fell. But as Brooklyn soon realizes, Ginny is prone to lying. Former Eden resident Darius Woods was in the hospital, too. The famous actor had written a screenplay that would lay bare all the secrets of the town, but within hours of his return, someone shot him.

What a twisty story
Revisado: 07-03-24
It took me a minute to get into this story. Because so many of the characters were unlikable. But as the story unwinds, their reasons for being the way they are become clearer. It takes a great writer to create characters that are so real—flawed people steeped in their beliefs, trying to make their own small world a better, safer place. And the twisty ending throws quite a punch. The perfect ending after that emotional rollercoaster.

To Say Nothing of the Dog was hilarious with characters you just hate to part with, So I read Doomsday for more of the same. This was unexpectedly heart wrenching for a sci-fi. Connie Willis has such a way with characters and plot. Definitely an author to read.

Historia
Thirty miles off the coast of San Francisco lie the Farallon Islands, known to sailors as the Devil’s Teeth. Despite their fearsome reputation, their remote nature appeals to young Lucy Riley, who in 1859 seeks a new start as a teacher to the lighthouse keepers’ children. But Lucy brings treacherous secrets with her, including a name that isn’t hers and a past she can’t escape. On the island, she meets Will Sisson, a mysterious man who seems to recognize her name—but not her face. Wary of Will at first, Lucy slowly starts to trust him.

A must read!
Revisado: 07-14-23
If you like Ahab’s Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund, you’ll like this story. The imagery puts you on the island. With all the drama of dysfunctional families, unhappy marriages, small communities and desperate people. It’s suspenseful and full of hardship, tragedy superstition and crime, told from the POV of a gentle woman, down on her luck. Excellently narrated and masterfully paced.

Historia
Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer’s affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance.

A beautifully told love story
Revisado: 04-22-23
A love how this story goes smoothly from the past to the present, from one POV to another. Well told and clean with great plot. It’s a mystery, a historic romance, and a bit of a tragedy. Characters are very real.
I’d love to read The Care and Old Books, another book within this book. Looking forward to reading more by Barbara Davis.

Just one more time
Revisado: 01-28-23
I have to listen again to see if I can figure it out. How much was coverup, rumor, conjecture? How much of what the survivors experienced was incited by smoke and mirrors? Did everyone panic react to excellent stage effects? Was BH a scapegoat or a Charles Manson? It’s compelling modern age Lord of the Flies story right down to the pig heads. Pay attention! Nothing is as it seems and some things just don’t fit.

Historia
Bo Tully is the sheriff of Blight County, Idaho, where law enforcement is usually pretty mundane: tracking down truants running away from school, picking up country boys who've had a few too many beers. But Tully gets a little more than the country norm when an ex-con calls with the startling news that there's a corpse draped across one of his fences.
