Picking up six months later, this riveting sequel finds Detective Cassie Maddox still scarred by her last case. Another great tana French detective novel

What did you love best about The Likeness?
I love her detective stories, the writing is beautiful and it is read really well by heather O'neil. There are the usual twists and was suspenseful. I think it missed a point to explore if there really was a connection between the victim and Cassie, that would have increased the depth and interest in the plot. I enjoyed Into the woods a bit more, but now I'm hooked, and have downloaded #3, faithful place.
What does Heather O'Neill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Excellent reading, changing her voice for all the characters quite well.

Not as good as memory man
Revisado: 09-24-16
The plot etc was interested with usual twists and turns, The real issue for me was that the main character Decker was not read by the same narrator as in the memory man and was not nearly as good. The other readers were the same and we're good.

Historia
In 1508, despite strong advice to the contrary, the powerful Pope Julius II commissioned Michelangelo Buonarroti to paint the ceiling of the newly restored Sistine Chapel in Rome. During the four extraordinary years that Michelangelo spent laboring over the ceiling, power politics and personal rivalries swirled around him. He battled ill health, financial and family difficulties, inadequate knowledge of the art of fresco, and the Pope's impatience - a history that is more compelling than most novels.

Just as good listening as reading it!
Revisado: 07-13-07
I loved this book when I first read it, and it was also great listening. This is probably one of the best books I've read in years. Beautifully written, suspenseful, wonderful love story set in mysterious Franco era Barcelona. Would recommend for a book club reading.

Historia
Jodi Picoult delivers the riveting tale of one small town's entanglement with high-school violence.
New York Superior Court Judge Alex Cormier is assigned to preside over the case of the alleged Sterling High School shooter. Lawyer Jordan McAffee represents Peter, the boy who, on the day of the shooting, was found in the corner of the gymnasium holding a gun to his head with a shaky hand. Detective Patrick DuCharme has one star witness, but her story keeps changing. And then there's the biggest problem of all: the star witness happens to be Judge Cormier's daughter.

just OK

didn't enjoy this book as much as some of her others (ie my sisters keeper etc). Perhaps it was bad timing that I started to listen to it soon after the Virginia murders, but even despite that, I felt it was often predictable.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

loved this book
Revisado: 10-14-06
We listened to this great book on a long road trip. I really liked the way it went back and forth from current time when the main character was in a nursing home (very poignant) to when he was young and his experience in the circus. Great character development and story.
