Historia
This classic Eastern Orthodox commentary on the Gospel of Matthew was written in about the year 1100 A.D. by Theophylact of Bulgaria, a brilliant and saintly Byzantine churchman. Blessed Theophylact distills the teaching of the early Church Fathers, especially St. John Chrysostom, in language that is profound, powerful, and direct. His commentary has remained a primary text on New Testament interpretation throughout the Christian East. Translated from the original Greek text.

Interesting but very anti-semitic
Revisado: 06-29-20
An ancient commentary with interpretations that I don't remember ever hearing before. I found them interesting. He has "spiritual" interpretations of everything and no literal understandings. He seems to be unaware of the 1st century context of the New Testament. His interpretations are frequently anti-semitic and very much from replacement theology. I like learning about different ideas and can learn from them even if I disagree with parts of it. Definitely worth the time. Understanding the thought process of his era helps to see how we got to where we are today.

Historia
Over the past hundred years, scholars have attacked the historical truth of the Gospels and argued that they were originally anonymous and filled with contradictions. In The Case for Jesus, Brant Pitre taps in to the wells of Christian scripture, history, and tradition to ask and answer a number of different questions, including: If we don't know who wrote the Gospels, how can we trust them? How are the four Gospels different from other Gospels, such as the lost Gospel of "Q" and the Gospel of Thomas?

Not just another modern scholar
Revisado: 08-17-19
This book proves much of the old theology and understanding of the Bible. I have become very disturbed by modern scholars. I have found it amazing how most modern scholars are excusing away more and more of the Bible. I don't understand how they can still claim faith when they don't believe in so much of the Bible.

"The Lord is my shepherd." Thus begins the most beloved of all Psalms - and thus begins a thousand-year journey through the Bible. Prophets, apostles, and Jesus himself took up this image from David, reshaping it, developing it, and applying it to their own situations and needs.

Historia
The purpose of this study is to prove that Jesus is the King of the Jews. He is the Jewish Messiah that they are still waiting for. He will come in the clouds, and every eye will see him. The Messiah had to be a descendant of Abraham and David. Jesus fulfilled this condition. The Gospel of Matthew is a bridge between the Old Testament prophets and the New Testament revelation of Jesus, the son of God.

Historia
Trading the popular but inaccurate Western perspective of the Bible for the context in which Jesus actually ministered 2,000 years ago, author Robby Gallaty reveals the fascinating Hebraic culture, customs, and nuances many Christians have never experienced or learned about. He works from the premise that we can't truly appreciate the New Testament unless we understand the Old Testament.

Packed Full
Revisado: 07-14-19
I have searched though about 55 books looking for "Judaisms," 1st century Jewish Biblical interpretations. This book is packed full of them, more than I have found in my previous 55 books combined! I have long believed Christianity has lost a lot due to its separation from Judaism. We have also lost much because of our modern Western thinking. The New Testament is a 1st century Easter book. This book delivers MANY examples of how Jews of Jesus' day would have heard and understood the scriptures and words of Jesus. These "Judaisms" clearly make Jesus more human and even more clearly the Messiah.

Historia
Improve your biblical literacy with these 24 insightful lectures about the cast of vivid characters in the New Testament. From the well-known figures of Jesus, John the Baptist, and the disciples to important but lesser known figures, such as the Syro-Phoenician woman who must turn Jesus's own words back on him to gain the healing of her daughter, Professor Levine paints vivid portraits of Christianity's founding generation. You'll learn about such figures as. the elderly couple Elizabeth and Zechariah and their son, John the Baptist;. Jesus's friends, the contemplative Mary and the vocal Martha, as well as their brother, Lazarus;. the apostles Peter and Thomas, James and John, and Judas Iscariot;. Mary Magdalene, who becomes known as the apostle to the apostles;. Paul the apostle, as presented in Acts of the Apostles and what can be determined about him from his letters;. a number of strong and interesting women, including the unnamed Samaritan and a repentant sinner who anoints Jesus; and. Jesus's interlocutors, including the centurion with a paralyzed son and the desperate Canaanite mother with a demon-possessed daughter.Rather than promoting any particular religious worldview, this course seeks to read the ancient texts anew to discover what they really say and how they were interpreted by both the secular culture and the faithful church.

In The Misunderstood Jew, scholar Amy-Jill Levine helps Christians and Jews understand the "Jewishness" of Jesus so that their appreciation of him deepens and a greater interfaith dialogue can take place. Levine's humor and informed truth - telling provokes honest conversation and debate about how Christians and Jews should understand Jesus, the New Testament, and each other.

Defensive Position
Revisado: 07-12-19
Author is a Jew who teaches New Testament. She knows the christian scriptures better than most Christian's. She proposes interfaith conversations. All this is good and some fresh. I feel that she comes off very defensive of Judaism and sometimes thin skinned. Her discussion on interfaith conversations require Christian's to make the more changes and have the most tolerant positions.

In Theology of James, Peter, and Jude: Audio Lectures, top New Testament scholar Peter Davids offers a comprehensive study of the General or Catholic Epistles, which are often insufficiently covered in more general New Testament introductions, theologies, and surveys. The lessons offer a thorough exploration of the theology of each book, including introductory issues and major themes, and shows how each book relates to the broad picture of New Testament theology.
