Historia
Renowned as much for her wit and satirical social commentary as for her stories of love and romance, Jane Austen remains unfailingly relevant and one of Britain’s best loved authors. In this Audible Original collection, an all-star list of narrators (Billie Piper, Claire Foy, Emma Thompson, Florence Pugh and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) capture Austen’s pin-sharp humour and tone in these dramatisations of her six beloved novels accompanied by a full cast.

Fully enjoyable I rather liked the background music and sound effects and overall good acting. Emma Thompson makes Northanger Abbey a delight

What an interesting person
Revisado: 07-25-20
Philippa Gregory does a great job of putting you in the shoes of Jaquetta and making you feel the time and place. It’s a longish book so especially in audio it’s possible to become a bit bogged down by the story but otherwise I really liked it very much . the narrator is great . she has the right level of emotion and she does different voices wonderfully well I would recommend this book for anyone interested in historical fiction and the Tudor period

Any additional comments?
This is a set of 4 or 5 very short guided visualizations. It is not a hypnosis tape. It is only fair.

Historia
Joseph Sheridan LeFanu was one of the major figures of 19th centrury supernaturalism. He helped move supernaturalist fiction away from the Gothic's emphasis on external sources of terror and toward a focus on the effects of terror, thus helping to create the psychological basis for supernaturalist and horror lit that continues today.

Bram Stoker he's not
Revisado: 03-01-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
For those who are deeply interested in the development of the vampire stories, this might prove enjoyable.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The narrator of the Carmilla story was weak and the voice she uses for the Carmilla character seems misguided. The narrator of the Green Tea story was fun to listen to.
Any additional comments?
Overall, as someone who is not a fan of the vampire genre and does not really understand it's appeal, I found this a dull "read". (Green Tea is not a vampire story.)

Decent Overview
Revisado: 03-01-14
What made the experience of listening to The History of Classical Music the most enjoyable?
I enjoyed listening to the musical excerpts and hearing them in context. Closer to the modern era, the historical notes became more biographical and delved less into the development of musical forms. Still an enjoyable quick overview and a nice reminder of music history studied in high school.

Odd but somewhat helpful
Revisado: 03-01-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This is not a set of tips, but a set of subliminal recordings. It did seem to elevate my mood slightly for a brief period. Otherwise, like so many similar items, it just seems silly.
