Historia
In seventh-century Britain, small kingdoms are merging, frequently and violently. A new religion is coming ashore; the old gods are struggling, their priests worrying. Hild is the king's youngest niece, and she has a glimmering mind and a natural, noble authority. She will become a fascinating woman and one of the pivotal figures of the Middle Ages: Saint Hilda of Whitby. But now she has only the powerful curiosity of a bright child, a will of adamant, and a way of seeing the world that can seem uncanny, even supernatural, to those around her.

not historical fiction
Revisado: 07-08-22
I was hoping, and thought I was buying a work of historical fiction. But all I found was, as the author puts it, a novel-- with all of the language, foul language and sexuality of our day. I found it irritating.

rich content. challenging narration.
Revisado: 12-06-21
i struggled with the narrator's reading. the content is good, and relevant for me. i have a teenage boy on the spectrum who challenges every step of the way. the book ends looking at him as a functioning adult. most parents are challenged concerning this possibility if reading this book. I may have to review this book repeatedly, it's insightful. adjusting the playback speed helps.

Historia
On a dark, wintry day, Eliza Grey receives a mysterious letter from her ailing Nana Mora begging her to come for a visit. This is an easy "Yes". Eliza has always preferred Nana Mora's beach cottage on St. Simons Island to the apartment she and her mom call home in the city. The island is a magical place where stories and legends grow as thick as the Spanish moss dangling in the trees. Now, Nana Mora's eyesight is fading, and there's something she wants to show Eliza before it’s totally gone: a mythical place locals refer to as Sirens Harbor.

Story Skips and Stops
Revisado: 09-10-20
I liked this story. I was really into it. But I cannot get the entire book to play on my Echo speaker. I think it stops at Chapter 6 or 8. I've tried everything. I would have given it five stars overall if it worked.
