Another great story from MK Turner

Okay, I admit it--I'm a Meredith & Hodge fan. Turner always comes up with the unexpected in her plots and yet at the end, the outcome makes total sense. Patsy has gone off to a new career in this offering but is still with Meredith. Half the pleasure of these stories is their relationship. The other half is the intricately plotted storylines. The narrator is a good choice for these stories and performs them well. All in all, a winner.

Darker than the first story

After listening to Shadow Magic for a second time and enjoying it even more on the re-listen, I went straight into Dark Harvest. Dark is applicable here, because this story is darker than the one told in Shadow Magic, and, for my taste, even better than the first. The darkness is lightened by the snark and humor, so that while I was on the edge of my chair one moment, I was laughing out loud the next. Nazri Noor has just the right touch, balancing the humor with the dark to equal great, original storytelling.

Luke Daniels again brings his talents to bringing Dusty and all the other characters vividly to life.

Magical and funny

It's not often that you find the perfect blend of a new, complex magic system AND a big healthy dose of humor in one book. And it's not often you find a story where the narrator had been murdered but somehow not only isn't dead but has gained new, unexpected powers. Shadow Magic manages to do all of these things with an engaging story that never goes where you expect, a big plus in my view.

The pairing of the main character, Dustin Graves, with the estimable narrator, Luke Daniels, is inspired. They go together like hot chocolate and whipped cream and are just as yummy.

A twisty turning mystery that doesn't disappoint

I'd read an ebook copy of this story and liked it enough that I wanted to hear it told. (I'm a huge audiobook fan and prefer audio over print most days.) The narrator did a fabulous job bringing these characters to life. The story itself deftly blends the mystery with a romance and makes both work. Even though, having read the book previously, I knew 'who done it' I still enjoyed how the clues rolled out and while I didn't guess who the murderer was the first time through, the clues are all there and it all makes sense.
