The previous two works were spun wonderfully and this third surpassed them both.

Tragically late to the feast
Revisado: 06-26-18
I cannot truly, adequately, express my despair at discovering this marvel at such a late, late time.
stunningly open and self deprecating, AB serves up a delectable and rollicking tale.
The telling is not for the timid, but the caustic delivery aptly suits the life he meant to relate.
No, I do not intend to become a chef, but I do hope to live the rest of my life as he lived his.
Anthony Bourdain will be, is, sorely missed.
When I recover from the trauma of his death, I’ll look to immerse myself in more of his passionate, visceral craftsmanship.

Historia
A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, The Sun Also Rises introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. In his first great literary masterpiece, Hemingway portrays an age of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, unrealized love, and vanishing illusions.

Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

This miracle of a novella was nothing I expected.
I purchased it for its title, knew little of the plot other than a curmudgeon on his farm in Calabria.
The story was magically crafted, the narrator perfect, the fusion of reality and the fantastic touchingly done.
The tale is founded in love, on forgiveness, on courage in the most exotic and mundane events of life.
Amazing.

Adam Nicolson takes the great naval battle of Trafalgar, fought between the British and Franco-Spanish fleets in October 1805, and uses it to examine our idea of heroism and the heroic. A story rich with modern resonance, Seize the Fire reveals the economic impact of the battle as a victorious Great Britain emerged as a global commercial empire.
