I love hard scifi but this book was just boring.
Revisado: 09-03-22
I started skipping entire chapters to see if it ever improved. I like hard scifi but there still needs to be an interesting story. This did not live up to the hype.

Interesting story but falls short
Revisado: 07-14-19
It was slow building, written in the 3rd person, and has almost no dialog. I understand they were trying to show the slowly developing intelligence with humor. The Nan (not a number) references are beyond the average reader that is not a programmer. I it reads like a good intro that goes on too long where the protagonist grows through accidental Spur of the moment choices. I hoped it would be more like the dungeon series by the same publisher.

Loved the twist of the dungeon lord being human and not a dungeon crystal. However, the sex scene was weak and better left out. It did not add to the story.

In 1929, Edwin Hubble announced the greatest discovery in the history of astronomy since Galileo first turned a telescope to the heavens. The galaxies, previously believed to float serenely in the void, are in fact hurtling apart at an incredible speed: the universe is expanding. This stunning discovery was the culmination of a decades-long arc of scientific and technical advancement.

The narrator is wonderful and the use of accents adds to the story. Audio books like this make me look forward to my daily commute. This topic could easily be boring but the telling is dynamic without being annoying like some infomercial reader.

Historia
A provocative work that challenges the traditional and widely accepted principles of business management - and proves that they are outdated, outmoded, or simply don't work. Do open floor plans really work? Are there companies that put their employees' welfare first, and their clients second? Are annual performance reviews necessary? Dr. David Burkus is a highly regarded and increasingly influential business school professor who challenges many of the established principles of business management.

information age work assembly line management
Revisado: 04-15-16
This book really makes you think. Our work becomes more mental and less physical every day. Our management teams still work as if we had shifts to fill on the assembly line. This book gives real world examples of companies that grew through flexibility in vacation, shifts, mixed open/closed work spaces.

Would you like to know how the universe works? Scientists have been asking that question for a long time and have found that many of the answers can be found in the study of particle physics, the field that focuses on those impossibly tiny particles with unbelievably strange names - the hadrons and leptons, baryons and mesons, muons and gluons - so mystifying to the rest of us.

A great history of the theory and the evolution of the standard model of physics. it also shows areas of weakness such as with the neutrinos. mentions cosmology and string theory as well.
