Historia
For those of you who are interested in mind control strategies, I will introduce you to a new type of manipulator, more devious, more cunning, and more dangerous: the dark empath. You won't have to deal with definitions or technical terms, because I have decided to use examples, real life situations, models of communication, and approaches. A book that will change your perspective on relationships. Understanding if you are being manipulated right now and to determine by whom, will give you an edge as of today.

I suspect this is AI-generated garbage.

First, the narration. Yes, the words and syllables sound human-voice-produced. But the inflection and pacing stilt and falter so much they seem automated. Pauses come awkwardly and inconsistently, which I find distracting.
Next, the content. I’ll keep to the objective & technical. Although the concepts sound valid and attracted me to the book, the recordings include numerous repetitions, varying in length from a phrase to several sentences.
But the bit that did me in was, I think in Chapter 8, something like this: “… empathy, … which is different from empathy…” I listened to it three times to make sure I was hearing it right. “Someone” didn’t edit for accuracy. No wonder they begin the book with an extensive disclaimer.
I’m done - off in search of a refund. I can learn more from internet searches.

Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Historia
EarthCore is the company with the technology, the resources, and the guts to go after the mother lode. Young executive Connell Kirkland is the company's driving force, pushing himself and those around him to uncover the massive treasure. But at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting...and guarding. Kirkland and EarthCore are about to find out first-hand why this treasure has never been unearthed.

Fantastically crafted story!
Revisado: 10-05-21
I enjoyed everything about this book. The plot’s complex and well-paced crescendo, Sigler’s rich character development, and the blending of Science Fiction, Spy/Military, and Action/Thriller elements captivated me. Ray Porter’s rendering of the story offers an impressive range, accomplishing excellent pacing and very good character distinction - except for the female characters. These voices tend to simper and lack believability at times; the publishers would have done better to have cast an equally versatile female to read those roles. Still, I highly recommend Earthcore for those interested in these genres.

I didn't expect to enjoy this so much!
Revisado: 01-29-21
It's been decades since I've read (listened) to this genre, but my favorite editor and teacher (Lynn Skapyak Harlin) recommends Anne Perry heartily. So I gave it a go. I found the characters engaging, the plot twists exhilarating enough to draw me in deeper, and traveling back to the Victorian era warmed my heart (and reset my feminist resolve). I chose this title somewhat randomly, looking for a first Anne Perry book. I was especially delighted to find the theme of architecture running through the book because I spent almost forty years as a female architect. Hearing the spatial descriptions brought me many smiles. Now I'm trying to decide whether to go back to the beginning of the Monk series or try a different thread.

Jesse Israel was a successful music executive running his own label when debilitating anxiety and panic attacks forced him to step back and seek help. He founded The Big Quiet, a mass meditation movement that gathers thousands of people for large-scale moments of quiet around the world (including for Oprah’s 2020 Vision Tour with WW).

Not for everyone.

I hesitate to criticize, because I love the concept of what Audible is doing with this series, I love mediation, and I love crystal bowls. I’ve been meditating for 20 years. I’m also non-neurotypical (Level 1 Autism diagnosis), and have some issues with anxiety and PTSD. And I have asthma. The first part of the mediation triggered me, and I had to reach for my inhaler. My mind raced with, “Wait, you were talking about breathing naturally. And now you’re telling me to follow the sound of the bowls? But you’re also playing the high bowl when you play the low bowl, aren’t you...?”. Et cetera. I calmed once we started body scanning, but now I’m wide awake. Just a gentle word out for others who may have similar issues. Thank you.

Thank you, Sam, Emily, and Sean - the podcast was enjoyable on many levels, and it really helped me feel connected to the writing and listening world we’re in right now.
One suggestion, please: it would be very helpful if you could repeat a quick list of the books and authors at the end of the podcast, for folks like me who don’t have great memories and don’t take notes as we listen.
I look forward to enjoying several of the ones you mentioned. Thanks again!
