Historia
With his colorful tattoos and booming hip-hop sound track, Mike Iaconelli has turned the world of big-money competitive bass fishing upside down. In Fishing on the Edge, Iaconelli tells his own story, and it's a whopper: a Philly-born, Jersey-bred Yankee who's been stealing the spotlight from bass fishing's traditionally all-Southern anglers, attracting fans and dominating one of the fastest-growing sports in America.

what you would expect
Revisado: 12-20-05
This wasn't a bad book. Yet it was what you'd expect. The story of Iconelli's life is interesting but not unique enough to be considered compelling. The other problem with the book is that it seems like it was written for a high school english composition class. Ike is really fond of trying to sound hip in his writing, so if you don't want to hear the phrase "I was totally stoked.." a thousand times you had better rethink this purchase. I bought the book hoping for fishing tips. They are there, but they are the same tips found on his web page and don't amount to much taken as a whole.
With that said, I don't feel like the book is unworthy of a listen. If you like fishing this listen will be moderately worth your time. But don't expect more than Ike can deliver!

Historia
The first volume of the Liberation Trilogy, An Army at Dawn is history of the highest order - brilliantly researched, rich with new material and surprising insights, the deeply human story of a monumental battle for the future of civilization. "An absolute masterpiece," says Andrew Carroll, author of War Letters, "This book is storytelling - and history - at its most riveting."

Very good
Revisado: 12-20-05
I found the story behind the history to be very entertaining and informative. In addition, this text reminds the listener of the problems of assuming that the US has always been the great superpower. Historical figures are presented as they really were and that should be applauded. I am wishing that audible had an unabridged version.

He becomes entangled with a woman as dangerous as she is charming, and a tottering, brilliant man haunted by a perverse secret of his past. Good, but not what I expected
Revisado: 12-20-05
I have to say that I enjoyed this story very much. However, I purchased the audio thinking I was getting a spy novel. That was not to be the case. Sure, the Circus is mentioned, and it is one link between some of the different personalities in the story. Yet this is certainly not a spy story by any stretch of the imagination. This is a basic murder mystery.
With that said, I enjoyed the book and recommend it without hesitation.
Enjoy

something NEW for Chomsky fans
Revisado: 09-29-05
Listening to this recording I became aware of something new - something that never happens in a Chomsky recording. Someone interrupted him. At first I was somewhat annoyed by Rose's constant interruptions, then I realized that I was not used to people challenging Chomsky. This added a neat dimension to what would have been a wonderful recording featuring Chomsky exclusively. Worth getting!

Excellent overview
Revisado: 09-27-05
This is an excellent overview of the holocaust. In addition, it contains a summary of some of the new research in the study of the holocaust and offers some critique of some of the newer historiographical methodologies. The one issue that I would raise with the book is that the title is a little misleading. In reality, the book is not all that much about Hitler as it is about the environment that led to the holocaust, including - of course - Hitler. I suspected that the book would be more of a study about how Hitler was involved with the final solution. Indeed, the book is much better because it is not specifically about Hitler and his role in the holocaust.

Historia
A River Runs Through It is a universal story of family love and a lyrical masterpiece, as beautiful as the great trout rivers of western Montana upon which it is set. Its beauty is especially evident through the "near-perfect match" of reader Ivan Doig and author Norman MacLean.

almost excellent
Revisado: 08-24-05
Without a doubt the text of this story is wonderful. I great book to listen to and contemplate. However, the sound quality broke up in places and that much of the experience makes me hesitate to give all 5 stars - a review the book itself deserves.

Historia
In the summer of 1972, with a presidential crisis stirring in the United States and the cold war at a pivotal point, two men, the Soviet world chess champion Boris Spassky and his American challenger Bobby Fischer, met in the most notorious chess match of all time. Their showdown in Reykjavik, Iceland, held the world spellbound for two months with reports of psychological warfare, ultimatums, political intrigue, cliffhangers, and farce to rival a Marx Brothers film.

I'm listening to it again!
Revisado: 06-15-05
I was somewhat reluctant to commit myself to listening to a book about chess for 12 hours. As soon as the book was finished I immediately started over. A great story about really strange people and an even more strange event.
