The characters are brought to life through the narrator, Jonathan Keeble's ability to change accents...turning a Great story into an Outstanding one!!!!

Not believing Joy Ellis wrote this book...
Revisado: 03-17-24
I kept listening thinking this book would get better...but the story line was super depressing...
I felt I was circling the drain during the last few minutes of this book... Joy Ellis is an amazing author & I cannot believe that Joy Ellis actually wrote this story... Poor Will is totally screwed...from page 1 of this book... Tough Matt Ballard shouldn't have even been added to this book... Matt played the role of a supportive friend but his true character was nowhere in these pages... This book is about mental illness... which is a horrible disease that often takes over & kidnaps a peson's life...That in itself is criminal but over the course of the book there are several other criminal's that are briefly mentioned...but not a lot of time is spent in this story on those evil character's...even though the worst 2 are eventually caught which is a relief...their criminal empire was vaguely touched on leaving an abundance of unanswered questions....there are just so many gray areas in this listen...I feel drained, depressed & weary....I wish I wouldn't have purchased this...it is however, only my opinion...but I really do not believe Joy Ellis wrote this... Maybe it should be a stand alone book & Liz & Matt's names should be changed...

Great Story But Ends Too Abruptly
Revisado: 10-06-23
I chose this story because I love, Love, LOVE David McCallion's narration... This is the first time I have listened to a book by the author, Graham Smith... I am big on Detective books & this story was really good... The characters were relatable & easy to connect to...with David narrating it gave them a depth that other narrator's can't always do. The style of writing was excellent & gave a lot of detail... which made it easy to invision the characters, their surroundings & atmosphere. Although, the story did come to a conclusion & didn't leave you hanging... it was a let down due to how abruptly the story ended. After being drawn in & getting to know the characters it really, really needed another few pages to give a little bit of closure with each of them...giving the book a little something extra that would make me want to listen to another story about them...but it didn't .... It would have been wonderful to hear from Jake's mother who is seriously outspoken & put Jake in his place... & his best friend's relief, the Fed that was with Jake who was tased...the police chief & even the crazy reporter... but nada... Regardless... I do recommend taking the time to listen to form your own opinion... It is a great story & told well.

Truly Excellent!!!
Revisado: 06-27-23
I am so glad I chose to overlook the review that called this terrible... It was perfect for a short, stand alone book..... Just like each of the Joy Ellis books, there was a great plot & it quickly pulled me into the story.... Tom Bateman was the perfect narrator for this book & added emotion & depth to characters...Regardless, of the skills you excel at ...when faced with multiple trauma's you are not yourself... why anyone would judge a character in this story for not being on their, "A-game" is beyond me... I found this book to be well rounded & it ties up all of the loose ends quite nicely...which is a huge requirement in reads that I enjoy.

Historia
Joe Gunther and his team - the Vermont Bureau of Investigation (VBI) - are usually called in on major cases by local Vermont enforcement whenever they need expertise and backup. But after the state is devastated by Hurricane Irene, the police from one end of the state are taxed to their limits, leaving Joe Gunther involved in an odd and seemingly unrelated series of cases. In the wake of the hurricane, a seventeen-year-old gravesite is exposed, revealing a coffin that had been filled with rocks instead of the expected remains.

Great Book in a Great Series... but..
Revisado: 04-20-23
I love, love, love Archer Mayor's, Joe Gunther Novels... Typically, I also love Tom Taylorson as the narrator... so much that I have skipped over the few books that Tom didn't narrate... but... the original voice that Tom gave to Gunther suited. It created what I imagine as an integral part of who Joe's character to be... a little gruff, rugged but when needed also softer, consoling & yet still deeply masculine bringing such charm to this main character in books 1-18... in this book his voice is softer & hard to imagine as the same rock solid Joe Gunther... Tom still has Willy's voice perfect & most of the other main characters too. That being said, this books story line is still Outstanding... It is full of adventure, twists & turns that I highly recommend listening too!!!

With Joe Gunther and his Vermont Bureau of Investigation team spread thin on assignment everywhere, from the remote dairy country of Northwest Vermont to the slums of Newark, New Jersey, they're pushed to their absolute limit when a string of serial arsons across the Green Mountain State evolves into the most shocking series of murders the bucolic region has ever known.

Wow! One of Archer Mayor's Best!!!
Revisado: 04-16-23
Per usual, Tom Taylorson's narration is outstanding! Tom brings each of Archer's amazing character's to life in the best possible light...giving each of them the depth that Archer's writing creates.
This book touched each of my emotions... During the intoduction of a character named...Bobby... you are taken into his thoughts & feelings... I found him to be such a likeable, caring, sweet teenager...only to bare witness during the last moments of his life...The anxiety I felt...just wanting to help get him out of that situation... His mother Marie... who I wanted to empathize with over the loss of her child...but I struggled to understand the absolute chaos, animosity & rage she was creating...eventually... I became angry & wanted someone to smack her...give her happy pills or sleeping pills to alleviate the overwhelming tension she created...
The twists & turns created in this story really kept me on the edge of my seat... as soon as I thought I had figured out how all of the pieces were going to fit together... it changed... there were people killed that shocked me....I enjoyed the trip to Newark with Joe & Willy...Especially the craziness, attitude & heart Willy Kunkle always brings to each book is excellent!
I have never thought Gail was good enough for Joe... Gail is such a brass, controlling, selfish woman whose persona is more masculine than feminine... I feel that Joe would be with someone who is as caring as he is... that has inner strength & determination but is also soft, thoughtful, funny...and would compliment him as much as he compliments her... With Gail stuck in her drama...the best thing she has ever done was to let Joe go.... but having him hurt & feeling his anguish... just brought me to tears...
Fantasic story...! Going to listen to the next one right now!!!

Awesome Book/Narrator Rocks/Ends too Abruptly
Revisado: 04-13-23
Archer's books can absorb you with all the detailed information & likeable characters... However, this book… like most of the others leaves you hanging with unanswered questions at the end... These questions are not cliff hangers that will be answered in the next book in this series... At the end...it is Wham, Bam... Conclusion... I can almost time it right down to about 12 minutes before the books end... there is a really, fast explanation wrapping everything up... Badda Bing Badda Boom...Done...
The narrator, Tom Taylorson... is an absolute perfect choice for these books... He adds charm & consistency to each of the characters in the story...especially to Gunther, Willy & Sammy... & even Gail when she is included... Which, I admit was a relief not having Gail & her shenanigans in this book... Gail brings unnecessary emotional drama that Joe Gunther over questions... taking away from the strength of his character...not to mention wears me out... It was Awesome to learn more about Willy... who made this book a delight to listen to!!! Willy is totally straight forward, even brash & without even knowing it shows he is vulnerable with emotions that run deep… giving this story heart…making this book a definite must read or even better a must listen…It doesn't disappoint!

Revisado: 02-09-23
You go Grace Burrowes!!!
If you enjoy Stephanie Laurens books... Grace Burrows style of writing is similiar... The narrator, James Langton is absolute pefection...he brings such charm to each character which gave them separation & life throughout this book...
I love a good mystery that has a solid foundation with a love match that grows throughout the story...
If you are like me & do not like a story where there is a long drawn-out disruption between characters that recognize they are in love... a mystery that has an over the top villian... & don't deal well with women portrayed as puppets... YOU will LOVE this book!!!
I found this book to have just enough romance, mystery, strong female personas & quick solutions... and the characters easily relatable & formed attachments to them throughout the book so I couldn't stop listening... A+++

The Opposite of Hurry Up & Wait
Revisado: 02-06-23
I have only listened to 3 of Maya Banks books but it seems that so far they all have the same issue... The story is amazingly detailed & really solid... it holds your attention through a little bit of mystery & expectation....the entirety of the story leads you to grand anticipation... However, you have hours of the lead-up which again... is a great journey... but even though the couple always end up together it is... Such a Let Down... all of the outstanding story telling goes flat.... lasts no longer than mere minutes... & then the book ends...total downer...
Rather like...
Being told on Monday that you will be going to the most incredible place for dinner on Friday... you discuss it everyday with your friends causing more & more expectation to build on what you begin to anticipate.... It is finally Friday... you arrive & the place is incredible... just like everyone described but your friends decide to get the food to go... You still get the yummy food & you saw the lovely atmosphere... but now it is over...
