Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

A Master Storyteller
Revisado: 06-20-23
This story had me in its grip from the first chapter. It’s real, it’s painful, it’s life, Kingsolver could teach a master class in writing dialogue. The story will stay with me for a very long time..

Historia
When a Navy vessel comes across a yacht in distress in the middle of the vast Indian Ocean, Captain Danial Tengku orders his ship to rush to its aid. On board the yacht is a British couple: a horribly injured man, Jake, and his traumatized wife, Virginie, who breathlessly confesses, “It’s all my fault. I killed them.” Trembling with fear, she reveals their shocking story to Danial.

Started off great …
Revisado: 07-26-22
This story started off great - adventure, mystery, survival… the end was so random. After spending hours listening to be handed a random, meaningless ending is a disappointment.

Historia
Miranda Popkey's first novel is about desire, disgust, motherhood, loneliness, art, pain, feminism, anger, envy, guilt - written in language that sizzles with intelligence and eroticism. The novel is composed almost exclusively of conversations between women - the stories they tell each other, and the stories they tell themselves, about shame and love, infidelity and self-sabotage - and careens through 20 years in the life of an unnamed narrator hungry for experience and bent on upending her life.

unsatisfying
Revisado: 04-29-20
I found this book to be an unsatisfying read by a seemingly self-indulgent author. I finished it hoping for something to bring it all together ... but nothing.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Bought By Mistake ... and sorry for it
Revisado: 04-04-18
What disappointed you about The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck?
I intended to buy another self-help book with f*ck in the title but bought this by mistake. It is incredibly annoying. The attempted cleverness in writing just covers up the fact that the book does not have a single point, rather a meandering series of unrelated points.
What was most disappointing about Mark Manson’s story?
The writing style and lack of content.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
none
Any additional comments?
if a refund was available, I'd return this for sure!
