outcomes that might ensue due to miscommunication, error, or human folly with irreversible and hellish consequences. The world’s nuclear nations must turn our nuclear swords to plowshares - that is, we must turn the arms race into a disarmament race.

Content, narration, and a sense of authenticity (when truth is so rare today) makes this memoir especially valuable. Navalny not only walked the walk, he lived and died for his people. A bright light in a dark time - may it offer guidance for us all.

A Compelling and Significant Book, Even Now

Leigh McGowan, AKA "Politics Girl" on YouTube, is a brilliant voice of clarity and (un)common sense. Her humanitarian instincts, commitment, and passion shine through each and every word and chapter. At many points as I read, I thought, "this book should be a #1 NYT bestseller!"

I hope that her voice echoes throughout our evolving country, currently going through a phase. As I sent to my FB and IG followers post-election:

"While feeling depressed by the injustic of it all, take care of yourself - focus on what you can control: your own behavior. Remain a part of the solution. Be kind.

One of the dumbest yet most brilliant (and prescient) films ever made is “Idiocracy”. Check it out and laugh - or cry.

There’s a saying: “we win or we learn.” And we all know this : lessons repeat themselves until we learn them - but if we don’t learn the easier lessons, they get more dramatic until we get the point.

As that ancient Chinese curse goes, “May you be born in interesting times.”

I feel saddest for the awesome Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. They went all out. This loss is not theirs, it is ours — all of us."

I think author Leigh McGowan would agree. I wish her well, and I hope she is discovered by new readers for a generation to come.

Compelling Tale, Memorable Characters

Larry McMurtry set up the final prequel to Lonesome Dove beautifully. One of my favorite-ever Literary Westerns.

The Final Two Chapters…

… and the last three minutes of this book seemed to encapsulate the sum of wisdom and all issues about aging.

The earlier chapters outlined research details I’m not likely to retain.

I didn’t want this tale to end. It has accompanied me on walks through the park and around the busy streets of Brooklyn, New York, which took on a sheen of the streets of Laredo.

Many years had passed since I read Plato’s rendition of these facets of the teachings of Socrates of Athens. These weighty yet uplifting were worth the wait.

Brilliant big-picture author and splendid narrator who seems to have melded with the author.

For me it was sometimes difficult to discern the forest for the trees. The author bordered, on occasion, to show-off in her use of language although the word choices were invariably apt. An important work that I’ll recommend although I’m not sure how to describe the contents and theme beyond the (also apt) title.

Engrossing Road Trip Tale

The tale captivated me with unpredictable twists. The one negative for me was the narrator’s over-emoting, creating what was probably a fine read into a soap-opera audio. Still, as such tales go, a worthwhile experience.

Excellent Reminders About Reality

Robert Sapolsky’s breadth and depth of knowledge on (the history of) innumerable subjects led this reader to a greater understanding of overlooked realities regarding the broader theme of free will vs determinism. A worthwhile read.
