Thought I was ordering a suspense

I feel bad giving three stars, because audible doesn’t always categorize correctly. From the description- I thought we were going to get a lot of twists and turns that lead to a gritty mystery. But it was a pretty slow burn story. And I was bored through most of it.

This was not my genre- spoiler alert…..
If you enjoy a story with little character development about a women who somehow has three men who want to take care of her- this one is for you. Finally in the last hour of the book do we get a mystery. Found it drawn out and boring and did not like the main female character at all.

Struggled with this book. Found myself confused non-stop. Although it says released in 2023, the main character is supposed to be 30ish but was born in 1972, so I think this may have been written 20 years ago. Probably why I found the trial and police procedures to not make sense at all.
The lack of DNA and logical processes the police would follow was so frustrating. They arrested someone for murder, but did not search their home? Someone kidnapped a family and they did not investigate that person? Just so many frustrating trails that weren't followed. I chose to listen at 1.5 and still could not stop rolling my eyes at the improbabilities.

She-Ra kind of book. (Men are bad) Sisterhood-Power. Lots of good twists and turns. Listen at 1.3 speed, and that made the audio bearable for me. The first sentence specifies the story takes place in Oregon, so I expected authenticity and descriptions of its beauty, but the location sounded more East Coast and generic.
