I cannot even begin
Revisado: 08-29-22
This is one of the single best books I've ever listened to. It totally drew me in and I've scarcely been able to stop listening. The narrator is fantastic, to the point that I literally cried while listening. I am really angry that I am writing this review, because I want to go forward to Volume II, however, I hope whomever reads this understands how much I love this book. I want to live it the way modern day Anne lived it.

Historia
England's Tudor monarchs - Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I - are perhaps the most celebrated and fascinating of all royal families in history. Their love affairs, their political triumphs, and their overturning of the religious order are the subject of countless works of popular scholarship. But for all we know about Henry's quest for male heirs or Elizabeth's purported virginity, the lives of the Tudor monarchs away from the public eye remain largely beyond our grasp, mostly not chronicled by previous historians.

Thoroughly enjoyable

it's hard for me to listen to a male narrator on Tudor history, but this gentleman reminded me of Mr. Carson on Downton Abbey. The book was neat because it mentioned things like how many pins it took to dress Queen Elizabeth and how they used the cuffs and ruffs to make it look like she had bunches of gowns. I loved the day to day details like that.

Historia
Newly widowed and the father of an infant son, Henry VIII realizes he must marry again to ensure the royal succession. Forty-six, overweight, and suffering from gout, Henry is soundly rejected by some of Europe's most eligible princesses. Anna of Kleve, from a small German duchy, is 24 and has a secret she is desperate to keep hidden. Henry requests her portrait from his court painter, who portrays her from the most flattering perspective. Henry is entranced by the lovely image, only to be bitterly surprised when Anna arrives in England and he sees her in the flesh.

A must for any Tudor fan
Revisado: 05-24-21
This author gave so much personality to Anna of Kleves. she's such a little known wife in contrast to the other dramatic wives, it was nice to pretend like she was this kind and steadfast. My only criticism remains that all the make characters sound just alike, played by the same woman. But, worth it!

Best-selling author Alison Weir turns her masterly storytelling skills to the early life of young Elizabeth Tudor, who would grow up to become England's most intriguing and powerful queen. Sweeping in scope, The Lady Elizabeth is a fascinating portrayal of a woman far ahead of her time - whose dangerous and dramatic path to the throne shapes her future greatness.

A Very entertaining piece of nonfiction

I really loved listening to this book. My greatest criticism is that I really wish they could have males really read the male parts. The reader made Henry VIII and William Cecil sound exactly alike. I feel it's a slap in the face to Cecil.

If you were one of King Henry VIII's six wives, who would you be? Would you be Anne Boleyn, who literally lost her head? Would you be the subject of rumor and scandal like Catherine Howard? Or would you get away and survive like Anna of Cleves? Meet them and Henry's other queens - each bound for divorce or death - in this epic and thrilling novel that reads like fantasy but really happened.

A MUST READ for any Tudor History fan
Revisado: 09-19-20
This book is amazing. it really brought these characters to life. each character was voiced in a believable accent, and with nuances that suspended the disbelief and gave me such a feeling of being in that time with each character. nobody was cast as a hero or a villain, just as people with hearts and souls. i could not recommend more highly.

A great listen by an amazing author. A fair bit of embellishment here or there, but the characters really come alive.
