I liked both the eras and how it collided, it was the WW2 scenes that dragged me in though

Historia
In the 1950s, Oscar Hammerstein is asked to write the lyrics to a musical based on the life of a woman named Maria von Trapp. He’s intrigued to learn that she was once a novice who hoped to live quietly as an Austrian nun before her abbey sent her away to teach a widowed baron’s sickly child. What should have been a ten-month assignment, however, unexpectedly turned into a marriage proposal. And when the family was forced to flee their home to escape the Nazis, it was Maria who instructed them on how to survive using nothing but the power of their voices.

Historia
A chubby little girl with blond hair, blue eyes, and ordinary looks, Victoria Dawson has always felt out of place in her family, especially in body conscious Los Angeles. Her parents are disappointed by their daughter’s looks. Later in life, the one thing Victoria knows is that she has to get as far away from home as possible and, after college in Chicago (which her parents disapprove of), she moves to New York City.

Yet, despite being the consummate professional, Veronique wants little of the glamorous life that modeling affords her.

Omg I liked everything. I highly recommend Beautiful. Veronique’s story is absolutely stunning. She definitely hit the nail on the head with this, and I recommend it as an intro to Danielle Steel, bc it was an into for me and now I’m hooked.

Paris in Love: A Memoir chronicles her joyful year in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. With no classes to teach, no committee meetings to attend, no lawn to mow, Eloisa revels in the ordinary pleasures of life - discovering corner museums that tourists overlook, chronicling Frenchwomen’s sartorial triumphs, walking from one end of Paris to another.

Historia
When Stephanie Land set out to write her memoir Maid, she never could have imagined what was to come. Handpicked by President Barack Obama as one of the best books of 2019, he called it an “unflinching look at America’s class divide…and a reminder of the dignity of all work.” Later, it was adapted into the hit Netflix series Maid, which was viewed by sixty-seven million households and was Netflix’s fourth most-watched show in 2021, garnering three Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Stephanie’s escape out of poverty and abuse in search of a better life inspired millions.

Class. How the world doesn’t make things easy for single moms.
Revisado: 11-28-23
I really liked how Stephanie Land got her much wanted first memoir Maid out. I’ve binged the Netflix series several times. I’ve enjoyed the book. And now this! I hope we get a second season of Maid from this book. I love that the author creatively tells her non fiction story. It’s interesting to see Jamie’s eventual down spiral into non evolution. How Amelia named her sibling after Neil Gamins book Coraline. Invented by a typo. Her tenacity to have a second kid despite WIC and food stamps. This is a love letter to all moms and daughters who have struggled.
