Historia
When Dr. Sloan Hastings submits her DNA to an online genealogy site for a research assignment, her goal is to better understand the treasure-trove of genetic information contained on ancestry websites. Interesting premise, but…

The story was a “4” until the doings of Baby Charlotte near the end. Come on. The narrator’s voice was a bit grating. Are there really so many people in Nevada speakin’ in a Southern accent?

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

I guess I just don’t like chick lit. So trite. Couldn’t finish it. A guy “mates with” a car? Sorry. That was the end for me.

Historia
Pulled out of (forced) retirement by his old protégé, Peter Guillam, George Smiley must determine who among the high command at the British Secret Intelligence Service is in fact a Soviet spy—one who’s been climbing their way up the ranks for decades. The stakes are high: the mole is behind more than one failed operation and has lain waste to some of their best informant networks.

Very realistic. Somewhat confusing as there were many characters, each with at least one other code name. Great narrator.

Historia
Duchess Day Radley is a 13-year-old self-proclaimed outlaw. Rules are for other people. She is the fierce protector of her five-year-old brother, Robin, and the parent to her mother, Star, a single mom incapable of taking care of herself, let alone her two kids. Walk has never left the coastal California town where he and Star grew up. He may have become the chief of police, but he’s still trying to heal the old wound of having given the testimony that sent his best friend, Vincent King, to prison decades before. And he's in overdrive protecting Duchess and her brother.

Historia
On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

I don’t know. I just couldn’t get into this. The story was unique but I didn’t really like any of the characters. The narrator’s male voices were hard to distinguish from each other.

Wasn’t to my taste.
Revisado: 10-28-24
I find it hard to believe that Orphan X, with all his training, couldn’t tell that a 16-year old girl had stripped him of his gun. There were a few similar incidents. I found my attention lapsing toward the end. Brick was his usual over-dramatic self with shaky voice. Just not my kind of book.

The body of eighteen-year-old TV personality Kathleen is found abandoned on a remote beach at the head of An Loch Dubh - the Black Loch - on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. A swimmer and canoeist, it is inconceivable that she could have drowned. Fin Macleod left the island ten years earlier to escape its memories. When he learns that his married son Fionnlagh had been having a clandestine affair with the dead girl and is suspected of her murder, he and Marsaili return to try and clear his name.

Another un-put-down-able Peter May story
Revisado: 10-04-24
I was just recently introduced to the Lewis Trilogy and “read” each book voraciously, one after the other. The combination of “the Peter’s”, author and narrator, is brilliant. As good as the book is the conversation between author and narrator at the end of the recording. What chemistry they have. So sorry the series is at an end.

Historia
When Fin Macleod catches up with elusive poacher and former childhood friend Whistler Macaskill, the two witness a freak natural phenomenon - a bog burst - that drains a loch of all its water in a flash, revealing a mud-encased light aircraft with a sickeningly familiar moniker on its side. Both men immediately know what they will find inside: the body of Roddy Mackenzie, a friend whose flight disappeared more than 17 years earlier. But when Whistler's face appears to register something other than shock, an icy chill of apprehension overtakes Fin.

Such a great story-teller! The characters are flawed but likable. The setting, brooding. Can’t wait to read the fourth book of the “trilogy”.
