Good book....

I have not quite finished listening to this book, but feel obligated to comment on the narration. I did not have the issues some have written about with this reader - his style is quite appropriate, in my opinion, giving the reading a bit of "creepiness" which fits in with the book. However, the narrator needs to have some dental work done because the whistle of his "S" nearly drives me crazy. Had to turn the volume down quite a bit to keep it from hurting my ears, and when it is necessary to turn it up because of outside noise, I can hardly wait to get it turned down again.
But listen anyway, if you can. Worth your time.

Best narrator ever!

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 09-26-10

This long and involved tale would have gotten lost for me without the amazing narration given by Anthony Heald.
I typically choose the longest books available since I spend several hours a day listening. Most of the time, the books with irritating or inept readers make it hard to keep listening. I've already searched out and chosen several more books with Mr Heald narrating.
This is an intriguing story with great insights into the minds of friends, enemies, and family members. As always, "to understand all is to forgive all", and so I find that though I started out hating EJ Watson, I end up forgiving him because I hear his side of the story at the end. A great read.

Great book, even better with this reader!

I love the characters and the wonderful story begun in this book. I've continued to listen to every book in the series and haven't been bored yet. Can't wait for the last book!
But best of all, I've discovered Kate Reading - she is absolutely the best Narrator I've come across. Her voices are always consistent and her accents for different nationalities & dialects are perfection. She quickly switches back and forth in conversations between characters without a bobble. I will search for more books with her narrating. You won't be sorry if you do the same.

If you don't understand poetry, don't read it.

This is an interesting book - the story rambles and skips around so much that sometimes you forget the point of where it's supposed to be going. However, we must understand that this lady is suffering through a terrible time and we are pulled into her emotional upheaval. If you can bring yourself to understand what is happening in her mind and heart, and choose to love her, you will enjoy this book. Having been through the death of a marriage, I can remember times when my thoughts were just this disjointed.

My only real complaint is that the narrator always pronounces POEM as "pome". Since the word is used every few lines, it becomes irritating. I've heard better readers.

Great book - poor narration & sound

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 11-19-08

I've enjoyed all the Terri Blackstock books - this one is very good. It is unapologetically a story about Christians and their lives. My only complaints are that the sound quality is poor - the reader sounds like she is in a barrel - and the reader herself. She mispronounces quite a few words and her inflection of many sentences causes a misunderstanding of the meaning. Her rendering of a Louisiana accent is thick and makes many of the characters sound like they are black. She isn't very good at showing the appropriate feelings in her voice according to what the text says the characters are feeling. My recommendation? Get the book and read it yourself.

What a sweet story!

The "coincidences" told in this book could only be the work of God, and thankfully the credit is given to no one else! A very lovely telling of the very dramatic grief experienced by fire-fighters' wives who lost their husbands in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Wonderful narrator - would listen to her books anytime. Please, Audible, bring us more of this quality book & narrator. Thank you!

Heart stopping!

This book has a very profound message. The narrator is par-excellence. The story is a beautiful one and spoke to my heart in powerful ways. I hope to see many more Karen Kingsbury books available on Audible and also would enjoy listening to other books read by this narrator. The spiritual message of this book is exactly what I love to experience. Thank you!
