Historia
From Charles J. Chaput, author of Living the Catholic Faith and Render unto Caesar, comes Strangers in a Strange Land, a fresh, urgent, and ultimately hopeful treatise on the state of Catholicism and Christianity in the United States. America today is different in kind, not just in degree, from the past. And this new reality is unlikely to be reversed.

Love his voice; cringe at pronunciation
Revisado: 12-23-21
Love the narrator’s voice but his pronunciation of names I know well had me wondering if Chaput was writing about someone else entirely.
This is a critically important book and one that I have read twice in several short years. This is the one that gives the Christian a plan of hope after reading “Out of the Ashes” and “The Benedict Option.”

While the world seems to be in love with the idea of tiny houses and minimalism, many of us simply can't purge it all and start from nothing. Yet a home with too much stuff is difficult to maintain, so where do we begin? Add in paralyzing emotional attachments and constant life challenges, and it can feel almost impossible to make real decluttering progress.

Genuinely Practical and Enjoyable

I listened to this book while packing my house for a move. I am already pretty good at keeping clean and clutter somewhat under control, but this book was so much fun to listen to and was so encouraging that it made my move packing so much easier. I felt less guilty about parting with the things that would be no fun to move and ultimately not that useful to me.

Historia
Several years have passed since the apprentice and his master, Will and Halt, first met, and Will is finally a full-fledged Ranger with his own fief to look after. The fief seems sleepy - boring, even - until Lord Syron, master of a castle far in the north, is struck down by a mysterious illness. Joined by his friend Alyss, Will is suddenly thrown headfirst into an extraordinary adventure, investigating fears of sorcery and trying to determine who is loyal to Lord Syron.

Disappointing installment and terrible new narrator
Revisado: 11-16-19
I am a big fan of this series and have loved the first four books, as well as the seventh book (I am reading in chronological order). This book was interesting, but the story and characters felt tired. Also, the lack of chemistry between Alyss and Will left me unable to care much about her predicament. Finally, the new narrator is simply awful. The accent for Will is ridiculous and the female voices are so unbelievable that it is a distraction! What a shame. The first four books - both in content and in narrator - were superb. The seventh book was marvelous - and had the original narrator.

Somehow I missed this one in childhood. I regret that. It would have been an absolute favorite! But the 40 something-year-old in me is content to have at least met it in time for my children’s childhood.
So much better than so many others in its category, this is a fun cerebral adventure.

Dan Stevens is a genius. His narration is positively inspired. I was floored by the ease with which he switches between voices and accents. I have over 300 audiobooks this one comes as close to a perfect audiobook as they come.

Excellent story with an equally excellent narrator
Revisado: 03-12-17
This is a story that seems to have gone out of style. There's no reason why it ever should have gone out of style. The story is book ended between two very exciting pivotal events with a lot of good old fashioned storytelling in between. This is a book that has the power to inspire great character and its readers. And it is highly entertaining. The narrator was fantastic!
