Historia
Painstakingly based upon the classic 1852 novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe re-tells the story to allow young readers a glimpse into the darker side of American history. Uncle Tom's Cabin was the best selling novel of the 1800s and had an enormous influence in gallvanizing public opinion against slavery. Uncle Tom's Cabin is the story of two slaves who's master must sell them to settle his debts. Uncle Tom is sold "down the river", away from his wife and children, and Eliza decides to escape.

This was one of the few books my entire family enjoyed listening to. If I knew this classic was so good, I would have read it a long time ago!

Historia
Hattie Owen prefers to be steeped in the familiarity of her small-town life than to think about the vast world beyond her own. Her family's boarding house is where she feels most at home, with its eccentric tenants and predictable routines, so different from the controlling and repressive home of her well-to-do grandparents who live nearby.

Good

I originally bought this to listen to with the kids, but they found it boring. I loved it, and couldn’t wait to watch the movie. They definitely liked the movie version better than the audiobook.

Historia
World War II continues, and Ada and her brother, Jamie, are living with their loving legal guardian, Susan, in a borrowed cottage on the estate of the formidable Lady Thorton - along with Lady Thorton herself and her daughter. Life in the crowded cottage is tense enough, and then, quite suddenly, Ruth, a Jewish girl from Germany, moves in. A German? The occupants of the house are horrified. But other impacts of the war become far more frightening. As death creeps closer to their door, life and morality during wartime grow more complex.

Best One Yet!
Revisado: 06-22-18
I usually hear a unanimous groan from my family anytime I say “audiobook.” After a few chapters of this one, my kids were asking when we could listen to another chapter. After it was over, my son wanted to know if there was a part two, or other books by the same author. My husband (who hates reading or anything that resembles it) even admitted to liking it!

I Think The Good Reviews Were Bought

I really wanted to like this book, but it was basically a 6.5 hour loop of the excerpt, peppered with lots of bad language.
