Chicken soup for the homemakers soul!

As a homemaker myself I love listening to this podcast because it is uplifting, inspiring and heart warming. I am thankful that all these women share their passion for home and family openly and honestly. Not many people I know want to talk about all things homemaking like I do so listening to this is like soul food for me.

Excellent!

I was enthralled the entire listen! Very few people could be a homicide detective let alone one with exceptionally high standards, empathy and unwavering dedication for the long haul. Learning all about the unique career Ron has lead was both fascinating and inspiring. Justine Ford must be commended for her skill in piecing this together so very well. The narration was also first rate. A genuine, gritty and insightful listen that may just be my favourite read of 2019.

Excellent! I was hooked!

Ethel was definitely fascinating. Yet I would best describe her as a narcissistic con artist, albeit a flamboyant one. She took advantage of people left right and center and couldn't tell the truth if she tried. She seemed to believe her own lies, she always saw herself as the victim and never acknowledged that she hurt others, not even in the abandonment of her own children. This deed being the most unscrupulous of them all.

Ethel obviously had mental/personality disorders combined with amazing storytelling and acting abilities. Her lies and performances charmed so many people into giving her what she wanted that I was shocked to hear of person after person falling under her spell. Was she really that convincing or was she just highly skilled at sniffing out exceptionally gullible people?

Mrs Livesey's misdeeds didn't always go smoothly nor did they go unnoticed by the law. I had to wonder how, in the end, she could possibly believe that her antics were worth continuing after all the trouble they would cause? Despite her saying that she wanted fresh starts ofteb, rehabilitation was beyond her.

I found the writing to be excellent as I was thoroughly engaged throughout. The narrator did a marvellous job too, using different voices for the vast array of characters. I did find the court proceedings outlined toward the end a little long winded and drawn out. Yet on the flip side this served to emphase just how complicated and difficult Ethel eventually made life for everyone, including herself.

I don't know how much, if any, creative licence was taken by the authour with this book because it is certainly pieced together with great detail. Nevertheless, I was totally captivated and must commend both the authour and the narrator for their exceptional work.

Priceless insights of a flawed educational system

As a student who always felt completely at odds with my schooling I find Gatto's essays to be very relatable. Alas the system continues down the same old path all these years later. Thank goodness for intelligent, concerned, open minded educators like Gatto who can still reach out to people through his books. This information is important for anyone who comes in contact with a school or university.

Inspiring and worthwhile but...

Matthew Fox was an engaging lecturer and presented a truly holistic approach to spirituality today. He talked about foundations in spiritual growth for a better world, embracing lessons from the past, various teachings from world religions and insights from modern science.

He did not address prayer head on though, which was a little disappointing, given the title. I would have liked something more specific about the act of praying as a conscious activity in addition to daily mindful living, based on his inclusive philosophy.

Instead Fox cast a broad net and talked about many different aspects of living a spiritually rich life. While this can be said to be 'prayer in action', unfortunately this meant that in the end this lecture didn't really differentiate itself from many other titles in this arena.

Yet I still found it to be a very interesting and worthwhile listen. His passion definitely comes through and his inclusive, holistic approach was most inspiring.

I play this regularly and find it quite soothing. It is recited in a clear and confident manner, which makes it easy to pray along with.

An uplifting collection of Dr Dyer's wisdom

A motivating and uplifting collection of Wayne Dyer's wisdom, taken from his earlier recordings. After reading much of his later work I wasn't sure if these earlier teachings would be worth listening to. I was pleased to discover that they were still super helpful. While Wayne Dyer's personal journey is reflected in his subsequent writings, these recordings still contain much of his grass-roots philosophy and plenty of inspiration to boot. I thoroughly enjoyed this recording and will definitely be listening to it again. My only complaint is the cheesy music used in between segments and the woman's short summaries. I guess this production style was in vogue at the time. Thankfully they only play for a short time before Dr Dyer begins speaking again.

A collection of positive messages for the body

I really enjoy listening to these affirmations on a regular basis. I think they are a positive gift to give yourself. I especially like the fact that this recording does not have any cheesy music playing in the background, unlike many other recordings by Louise Hay. Here, it is possible to clearly hear the uplifting messages without distraction. It is a relatively short recording but there is still plenty to work with.

Peale highlights positive thinking, faith & prayer

This book delivers a solid foundation in positive thinking with a Christian basis. It emphasizes the importance of cultivating a positive mindset and provides many ideas, stories and strategies for achieving this. It also highlights faith and prayer throughout. It is read by the author who has a rather unique sound, which was fine for me but may not be everyone's cup of tea. Overall I was inspired by Peale's conviction as he comes from many different angles to remind listeners of the importance of practicing positive thinking.
