Historia
In the world of Warbreaker, each person is born endowed with the power of one Breath―which can be sold and collected by others, then used to Awaken objects and even corpses to do their bidding. A few individuals who die in glory return as gods, with the power of thousands of Breath, but no memory of their mortal lives―and are enthroned in the Court of Gods in Hallandren’s capital. To Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris, the abuse of Breath and the claim of the Returned to be gods are repugnant blasphemy.

Lost a bet
Revisado: 11-15-20
Sanderson is unarguably one of the great fantasy writers to hold a pen, so I can only assume he lost a terrible bet. The payment must have been that he was required to write a 20+ hour book based on a mad lib containing
“Biochroma, hair, awakening, and mercenary”.
If so it’s an impressive feat but as a book not ideal. It’s kind of like volunteering to watch an entire season of Michael Jordan game film...from when he was in kindergarten. You know he will become great but this is not a good indication of where he’ll end up.

One small handwritten letter, sent from a dark, remote corner of the planet and lost in the system for 60 years, is about to change the entire human race. Outside Denver, Colorado, Joe Rickards stands over a small aircraft wreckage, studying burnt remains still smoldering in a field of freshly fallen snow. He's an investigator for the NTSB, working to carefully roll back the last several hours and identify the cause of the accident. But this time, he can't.

High School Philosophy Teacher
Revisado: 09-21-20
This feels less like a novel and more like a story told by a high school philosophy teacher trying to keep an unruly class interested in the subject. The characters are vehicles to deliver fairly mundane parables on existentialism. It's not unpleasant, just simple and disconnected.

A Great Story Making a Terrible Book
Revisado: 02-27-20
“Must you always stretch before battle” Galinor asks.
This entire book is stretching. It may be full of battles but as far as the plot goes it is a long slogging build up to almost nothing. It’s a plot sledgehammer, inelegant, unsatisfying and brutal.
The idea of the story is, sadly, brilliant. The problem is the book stomps all over it.

A Parable on Choices
Revisado: 12-27-19
Memoirs are built on honesty and humanity. Honesty in the facts in part but honesty in the feeling and intention certainly. That honesty must travel on a human voice. And yet it would be foolish to expect either in a CIA memoir.
As a result this memoir doesn't really feel like one. It is more a parable. A review of some important lessons learned and a sketchy outline of the machinery behind the scenes. It is still fairly interesting, you just can't expect to make any connection to the truth or the author.
The narration is strong given it's in the authors own voice. It does come with a heavy note of self congratulations. A justification for a difficult eight years and the sacrifices that had to be made. There is also a quiet note of revisionism to create some distance with the unsavory aspects and trade offs that come with good intentions.

Sixteen Hour Training Montage
Revisado: 09-20-19
Do you like training montages? When watching the Rocky films, do you wish Rocky just punched frozen meat, trudged through snow, and ran the Philly steps for sixteen hours? You are in luck! This is the book for you.
Other than being an interminable description of training, the book also has the advantage of one dimensional characters that never quite break through. Generally, the begining of an epic gives you a ray of hope or a satisfying kernel to latch on to and cary you on to the next book. This book does not have that. It has a truly impressive quantity of disappointment and sadness.
The writing itself is not as bad as the plot might have you believe and the performance by Prentice is terrific. It would be unfair to say it is a bad book. It's not bad. It just doesn't feel worth the time and emotional investment.

Super genius steps on rake
Revisado: 08-11-19
This is a preposterous book on every level. The plot is shot through with more holes than the protagonist. But there is enough fast paced action and satisfying character narration to plaster over some of the egregious issues. It’s ultimately an alright read.

The first and hopefully only bad Longmire
Revisado: 07-27-19
Have been through the 14 previous Longmires I marvel at the quality at the series as a whole.
This book is an aberration that mortgages the beautify of it’s younger siblings. If you have read the previous books you can picture what happens and can move on safely. Best to skip this all together and keep Walt and Co untarnished.
I probably don’t need to mention that Guidall is still incredible. He is the undisputed master.

An intro not a book
Revisado: 05-20-19
This is not a book. It's a VERY long prelude to something. It's impressive that in 12 hours the characters and plot could develop so little. There are a couple dozen hours left in this series but it's hard to see there being enough momentum to carry through them.

Waiting Room for Book Three
Revisado: 03-19-19
This is not really a book. It’s well narrated waiting before starting the next book. I think the third book may actually be better by skipping this one. It’s certainly not bad. It’s writing is on par with the rest of the series. There just isn’t much point to it in the grand scheme.
