In Washington: A Life celebrated biographer Ron Chernow provides a richly nuanced portrait of the father of our nation. This crisply paced narrative carries the reader through his troubled boyhood, his precocious feats in the French and Indian War, his creation of Mount Vernon, his heroic exploits with the Continental Army, his presiding over the Constitutional Convention, and his magnificent performance as America's first president.

Great! Well balanced.
Revisado: 01-26-25
I think that this is a wonderful biography. It shows his humanity, his greatness and his failings. I have read a few books about this era and it seems to me that this is very fair and honest as far as my limited reading can tell.

After years of watching patients cycle through her practice, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon noticed a pattern. While her patients struggled with a wide range of conditions, they all suffered from the same core problem: they had too little muscle rather than too much fat.

Love all the research provided
Revisado: 02-23-24
I think the first 2-3 hours (at least) were filled with tons of research. I’ve not done all the things recommended, but I have paid close attention to my protein intake and I am shocked at how much better I feel. I highly recommend this book!

Historia
Why are Danes the happiest people in the world? The answer, says Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, is hygge. Loosely translated, hygge - pronounced hoo-ga - is a sense of comfort, togetherness, and well-being. "Hygge is about an atmosphere and an experience," Wiking explains. "It is about being with the people we love. A feeling of home. A feeling that we are safe."

Overall good
Revisado: 11-20-23
I think over all I liked most of the ideas (and do many of them to an extent). I question the solution to happiness being a universal welfare state. As far as this book is concerned, I haven’t seen any data relating to the difference between homogenous countries and no homogenous countries. Countries that have little in diversity have less to overcome and less striving and less unhappiness because everyone shares the same culture, skin color, mores and norms and possibly even religion. I think this needs exploring before blanket statements over welfare being the only way should be considered. But as stated in the beginning, I enjoyed the book and I even felt a kindred appreciation of hygge in my own American way. I thank the author for 3+ hours of easy, light, fun listening!!

Historia
Every parent and teacher wants to give his or her children the best education possible. They hope that the teaching they provide is a joyful adventure, a celebration of life, and preparation for living. But sadly, most education today falls short of this goal. For the Children's Sake imagines what education can be based on a Christian understanding of the meaning of life and what it means to be human—a child, a parent, a teacher.

This was such an encouraging, nourishing, grace-filled delight of a read! I’ve heard about it for years and I’m sad to think that I waited this long before reading it. The narrators voice is calming and enjoyable to listen to. Cannot recommend this book more!

Historia
Olivia Colman reads E. Nesbit's classic novel. 'The Railway Children' is a masterpiece of children's fiction. It wonderfully evokes a bygone age and is packed with fun, excitement and adventure. When their father goes away unexpectedly, Roberta (Bobbie), Peter and Phyllis have to move from London to a cottage in the countryside. At the local station they make friends with the porter, Perks, and spend their time waving to the passengers on the trains.

Historia
McCullough's John Adams has the sweep and vitality of a great novel. This is history on a grand scale, an audiobook about politics, war, and social issues, but also about human nature, love, religious faith, virtue, ambition, friendship, and betrayal, and the far-reaching consequences of noble ideas. Above all, it is an enthralling, often surprising story of one of the most important and fascinating Americans who ever lived.

A story for America, now more than ever
Revisado: 11-15-18
With the turmoil of “fake news” and biased news on all sides, with anger and misunderstanding abounding, this account of John Adams life and times offers perspective on current events today as well as a look into important lives of the past. I highly recommend this book.
