Ok that is a scary thought
Revisado: 03-14-24
A perky brilliant cheerleader murderer- there’s a scary thought. The terrible thing is that you are rooting for her. She is only giving bad guys what they (mostly) deserve. I guess that is a statement of how well written and performed this book is.
Weirdly I did enjoy this story. And one of the best parts is the ending.

Historia
Karla Bell and I are not friends. We don’t even like each other. But when she gets tangled up in a murder investigation, I agree to help her stitch together the clues and find the real killer. I’m not doing it to help Karla. I’m doing it because if Karla goes down for a murder she didn’t commit, people I do care about will suffer, and the real killer will get away with murder. Karla isn’t easy to work with. She needles me with backhanded compliments and snarky wisecracks, until my patience is thinner than a strand of frayed yarn.

These mysteries are such fun! Usually I can predict the mystery endings but not with this series. And yet the clues are all there when you think back. The reader sounds just like the characters in my head! So enjoyable!

Engaging if overwhelming with “magical” sources
Revisado: 05-18-23
This book was fun to listen to- but there were so many sources of magic that seemed unrelated I doubt it would hold up to critical evaluation. It felt like “The Mummy” combined with Harry Potter. As hard to accept as the story was, the narrator made it feel believable as I listened. I think that as author hones his “world”, the stories in the series will only get better. Also I liked the length of this book- not maybe as much bang for my buck as some- but a good story in a reasonable amount of time. Kudos to the narrator for bringing it to life.

Chronic Profit: Building Your Small Business While Managing Persistent Pain shares the story of how one entrepreneur sought freedom from cubicle life along with the flexibility to be a parent and a business owner, and learned to extend herself enough grace and compassion to excel in business while still taking care of herself.

Surprised me with how much I gained from listening
Revisado: 03-12-23
I am am older business owner, but I don’t suffer from chronic pain. My daughter suggested I listen to this thinking it would be useful. And it was! As I move toward the end of my business years, I am making many of the same choices required by those living with chronic pain- where to put my efforts and time, how to not feel guilty about delegating, how to find a balance between work and time for me( and all my Dr appts that come with aging). In fact I think any business owner can benefit from listening. I enjoyed the low-key narration with subtle changes to let me know when the author was quoting others. I am glad I listened to my daughter!

Historia
Dalinar Kholin's Alethi armies won a fleeting victory at a terrible cost. This series pulls you into the epic story and developed characters. Performers are amazing. The world becomes very real. I must admit I get lost in the names sometimes( so many and quite foreign sounding).

Identifying personalities in four different ways, or dimensions, dates back to ancient times with a lot of stops along the way. Knowing who you are, who you really are, and having a clear understanding of others and how they tick is something we can all benefit from.

Useful - esp when you reach the end.
Revisado: 01-30-23
The information in this book felt repetitive, but the end( using the dimensions) was quite useful-insightful. After the first chapters of the book and their repetition, it becomes evident that the other chapters repeated to cement the information in the minds of the listeners , This repetition makes the last ( and most important chapter) crystal clear. While my “plaid” is quite convoluted, my husbands is dead on. I will remember the information provided and hopefully be able to utilize it.
Despite the repetition, the reader did a very good job of varying the inflections and keeping the material fresh. This would be very helpful for required listening- esp. in large scientific and research organizations- where I once worked. Make sure you listen to the end!

In this intimate journey of self-discovery, Sam sets out along Scotland's rugged ninety-six-mile West Highland Way to map out the moments that shaped his views on dreams and ambition, family, friendship, love, and life. The result is a love letter to the wild landscape that means so much to him, full of charming, funny, wise, and searching insights into the world through his eyes. Waypoints is a deeply personal journey that reveals as much about Sam to himself as it does to his audiences.

Better than I expected
Revisado: 12-14-22
Heughan is very real and candid. His insight is not new, but we all need a reminder to enjoy the moment and to not constantly look ahead. It was refreshing to hear him keep his Outlander success in perspective, hear his desire to be a real actor( not a one role wonder) and hear his humanity. I couldn’t relate to the mushroom armies, but believe him to be very relatable otherwise. I look forward to seeing him in more acting roles- but meanwhile am enjoying his other projects.

Such fun! I’m in.
Revisado: 05-10-22
Fun stories-feels like I’ve moved into this little Canadian town and I am getting to know everyone. The number of murders may be impossible for one little town, but the characters feel real and the twists get me each time. I enjoy the narrator- she sounds exactly how I imagine Meagan, and frankly like many of my friends and family. The books are a good length - not so long that I have trouble finding the time to finish. Keep going Davis and Alvatrades! I anxiously anticipate your next audiobook.

Historia
My name is Megan and it’s been three months since I’ve found a dead body. At first, the most recent death in our cozy little town had nothing to do with me. The police said the poor man had a heart attack and lost control of his car. Spoiler alert: It wasn’t a heart attack. It was murder. Why did it have to happen in front of my yarn store? And why do I keep discovering dead bodies like it’s a hobby? I’d ask a therapist, but it turns out it was the local therapist who wrapped his car around the lamp post in front of my store.

Getting better and better
Revisado: 12-23-21
The story is told in a cozy friendly voice, with twists you don’t see coming and wonderful( love ‘em!) puns throughout. The characters grow and continue to feel like old friends. The performance -just like the book- is getting better and better. Her “Megan” is exactly as I hear it in my head and the reoccurring characters are feeling like “old friends”. That said, “Eric” felt a bit slow, but is becoming more relaxed. Can’t say if that is performer or author, but it feels as if that was planned and I like it!
This doesn’t feel like a serious - intense kinda mystery. More like a small town storytelling with warmth and humor. A very enjoyable listen.
