Delightful and humorous scifi novella

i laughed out several times--rarity for me. so, this was a truly funny short story in the tradition of Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett. short enough for a brief roadtrip. fans of Firefly will especially enjoy references to that show and Adam Baldwin's performance is stellar. fair warning though, the author does not try to hide his libertarian/anti-liberal biases as he mocks some leftist figures and stereotypes. recommended.

trickle down economics hasn't worked very well for the last 30 years. Why don't we try trickle up economics instead? 2020 presidential candidate Andrew Yang has made a Believer out of me. when you consider the jobs but I've been lost to downsizing and the jobs that will be lost to artificial intelligence and mechanization, restructuring the American economy he's going to become essential. UBI would effectively do this and mitigate the social problems america would face from a changing work culture. 'drain the swamp' by making it illegal for legislators to seek employment as lobbyists/consultants in the fields they were supposed to regulate. imprison CEOs 1 month for every 100million in fines. yang2020!

i'm listening to this well- written volume 14 years after its publication and it feels like I'm opening a time capsule. the author soes an excellent job tracing the origins of right wing media to several economics think tanks who decided to merge corporate interests with social values (reactionary responses to affirmative action, feminism, homosexuality), creating a target audience--a victimized class that exists in a media bubble of spoon-fed propaganda. fast forward 12 years and voilla, you get president Trump. i'm also reading works by Amy Chua which talk about political tribalism, how entrenched political identities lead to stereotyping people outside ones group. thanks for the social fragmentation faux news.

Hard to Follow

i thought the premise was interesring, but ultimately i found the plot unexciting and dull. The main character Milo is reincarnated over and over so he can evolve and join something called the oversoul. i just found it impossible to follow Milo's many lifetimes and whatever goal he was pursuing. I was hoping for something with more humor.
