Historia
P.I. Sharon McCone is sick and tired of San Francisco's persistent rainy weather, so she jumps at the chance to investigate the sabotage of a movie being filmed on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The documentary is based on the writings of Elson Wellbright, a descendant of a missionary family and scholar of Hawaiian culture and history. Wellbright's son is bankrolling the project and has angered many members of the family, who aren't anxious for the film to be completed.

Horrible to listen to
Revisado: 02-08-25
Man, I love this series, but this book is impossible to listen to. The narrator is awful, she has this strange way of talking, it’s just horrible to listen to. I can’t even rate the book as written as it’s so irritating to listen to. If you are listening to this series, I’d suggest reading this one and saving your money!

Historia
A full-fledged pilot for several years, Sharon McCone is due for the biannual flight review required by the FAA. Her former flight instructor, Matty Wildress, invites her to fly up to the small Sonoma County town of Los Alegres for the evaluation. The test isn't due for several months, however, and McCone suspects Matty has more than safe flying on her mind.

New Narrator doesn’t work
Revisado: 01-08-22
I loved the prior narrator(s) for the series but unfortunately I purchased this and another one without listening to the new one. I returned the other for a refund, audible won’t let me return this indicating I am abusing the return policy somehow. So I’ll give a review. I find Sharon McCone to be a delightful snarky character, and this narrator is too perky for the series. I just can’t listen to it, so while the story may be great, I can’t get past the narrator nor fitting with the story. I’d return if I could, but since I can’t, buyer beware.

New narrator not up to par
Revisado: 12-18-21
The reader of a series can make or break the audios. I really enjoyed the prior narrator, but this book had a new one. No idea why, and in other series the change of a narrator can be fine, but I was unable to enjoy this book with the new reader. She was rather chirpy with little differentiation between characters. The prior one had a sardonic tone with Sharon that fit, this was just….not for me. I see that another narrator starts a few volumes down, I think I’ll just skip the middle and move on. I can’t speak to the story, I’m sure it’s as good as others, I advise listening to the sample before purchasing given the new reader.

Historia
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.

Strange narration mars a decent story
Revisado: 09-25-20
When I started this I was excited as it felt like the beginning of another Royal Spyness style story, and I love the Royal Spyness series. The story didn’t ever really elevate itself in that way, but it was a pleasant enough story that had good characters and an interesting plot line.
My issue was the narrator. At first I thought she was fantastic, but the more I listened the more I started to hear things that detracted from it. As another reviewer mentioned, she has this strange style of iron all shifts and almost drawing out the syllable of the last word in EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE! Once I noticed that, it made the listening experience irritating. I finally put it on 1.7 time fast to get through it quicker. It just grated, since it was everywhere.
