Killing me with the "reading"
Revisado: 10-26-24
I love the story, but dear God is the narration killing me. It's a reading. There isn't much life at all in the words and I had to go back in the story at least every 10 minutes to listen harder trying to understand what what happening.
Everything she reads just sounds exactly the same as the last sentence. Each sentence end sounded like the end of the chapter. The reader doesn't let the story flow. there is no feel for what is being said. it all sounds the same.
When the (I can't call is narration) "reading" is all I can think about, it kills the story.. I can't focus on the story.
This just makes me sad.

Way better than I thought
Revisado: 08-16-24
Honestly, I LOVE the DCI Logan series. every one! But knowing the characters so well, I really had doubts that this series would be up to snuff (as Logan might say). I held out for a couple of years until I finally broke down and decided to add these books to my collection.
I could kick myself for waiting so long.
What a great first book. What a terrifying first book. What a perfect first book. I can't wait for the rest.
Dont be me. Don't wait.

Great listen that you come to expect
Revisado: 04-17-24
Tension, fear, humor, and a deep dive into Heathers past that explains a lot about her. I enjoyed it. Just go with it. At times she's annoying, self absorbed, and even - well... not that bright, but it all is what makes her more real.
Yes, there are tropes, yes, there are moments when you want to reach into the story and shake her until she stops being stupid, and yes the story travels along the standard expected path... but all of that is part of the charm and payoff. It's good. It's quite good.
I wasn't sure if I wanted it cared enough about the character to listen to her own story, but I'm glad I did. I also plan on listening to the rest of them as well. Looking forward to what happens next.

Cringe narration - mid story
Revisado: 04-04-23
Not a terrible story, but not great either.
Some of the voices were just unbearable to listen too. I mean, did you spend all the money on Dakota Fanning (who, btw, also not great, even though I thought she should be) and have only enough left over for a couple of high school voice teachers from Pascatauan?
Overall meh story. Full of tropes. Sooo many tropes. All I could think of was this turning into a Hallmark mystery. Exactly that kind of novella.
Definitely not going to listen to another, but if you like your mysteries like the Hallmark channel, you will like this one.

A wonderful collection of short stories by some of the greats in fantasy fiction. A couple of the stories that I was not enamoured by, but all in all a wonderful listen. Every performance was a hit and overall I loved it!

A story you've heard before with a new ending
Revisado: 07-26-21
Another home run for Nameless. I'm worried for him in this last episode of the series, but I'm hopeful that he will end up with a positive ending. Even if it's an Odd Thomas one. I love this series and would love to see a full novel with all the trimming some day.
Thanks Dean for another hour well spent.
