Historia
Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow...where, two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles, and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town. Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them under.

Story was intriguing, but would have been better if the characters were a tad bit older not high schoolers. I liked the story better when I forgot the characters were teens.

Historia
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

interesting but not excellent
Revisado: 05-26-24
Overall, a good story, but not great. The build-up took so long and some of those weren't exactly necessary for overall story. Main characters were good and I do want to listen to the next book, but I'm not immediately itching to jump right into it. Hoping the next books moves a bit quicker.

I'm a big fan of westerns and this did not disappoint, finished it in 2 days. It didn't shy away from the hard truths of the old west, but did it in a way that was tasteful. Loved the characters and Twists. Great listen!

overall good, but a little alow
Revisado: 01-28-24
I enjoyed the story line and narrator was decent. I was hooked, but it just felt slow, especially the beginning third of the book. I'm jumping right into the 2nd book because I need to know the outcome. The pace, even listening at 1.2, kept me from giving 5 stars.

I enjoyed everything about the story. This had the right amount of tactical elements to make it feel more real and it added to the story rather than just adding unnecessary knowledge. Everything isn't as it seems and I liked the backstories we got along with a few twists. Enjoyed the narrator too.

not much of a myatery
Revisado: 12-16-23
The summary of the story was rather misleading, from that I was expecting more of a mystery throughout the story, but what I got was a lot of restating of things that previously happened in the book and even if there was strife in the story line it all worked out too smoothly without any real consequences or hardships to work through. The description talks about criminals chasing her every move, but that is less than 30 minutes of the whole story.
The narrator was okay for the male voices, but terrible for women and children.
There was just some stuff that was just dumb, like she could not breast feed because of a c-section and then the baby was over 2 but still was eating jars of baby food. Hounding a combat vet for swearing and talking down about drinking, even casually, just rubbed me the wrong way.
The whole story just felt fake without any of the suspense or mystery the summary suggested.

completely hooked
Revisado: 06-12-23
I really loved this story. I was completely hooked. Going into the the story, I didn't actually know much other than who it was about. My emotions were all over the place about Snow, from loving, hating, pittying him...I kept thinking how did this boy become the despicable man from the Hunger Games. Narrator did a spectacular job throughout, my only complaint was the singing, would have preferred actual singing over the way the songs were spoken....but not enough to take away any of the stars. Solid story and narration overall!!

Some twists and turns that I didnt see coming but ended the way I was hoping. Immediately getting the next book in the series. Some more modern aspects than the other series I have read of hers, but it added to the story and I liked it. Narrator really portrayed characters well.

awesome continuation of the series
Revisado: 09-18-22
I love this whole series and have listened to them all back to back, which I typically don't do (I prefer jumping from genre to genre so I don't get tired of the same thing all the time!) This one, like the previous books, can get rather technical and descriptive on the military gear and tactical side of things, but that is one of the things that draws me in! The performance is excellent and the characters are done very well!!

Loved it! Great narrator and action packed story. Realistic and engaging. Typically I only listen when running or walking my dogs, but I pretty much had this playing non-stop because I was invested in the characters and overall story! Going straight on to book 2!
