Historia
Bradbury's Mars is a place of hope, dreams, and metaphor - of crystal pillars and fossil seas - where a fine dust settles on the great, empty cities of a silently destroyed civilization. It is here the invaders have come to despoil and commercialize, to grow and to learn - first a trickle, then a torrent, rushing from a world with no future toward a promise of tomorrow. The Earthman conquers Mars...and then is conquered by it, lulled by dangerous lies of comfort and familiarity, and enchanted by the lingering glamour of an ancient, mysterious native race.

The Original. Great Stories, Great Narrator.

Excellent Narration
Revisado: 04-13-25
The potential buyer should be made aware that The Martian Chronicles is not a novel, but rather a collection of loosely connected short stories, which take place on the same fictional version of mars and sharing a limited continuity. The stories deal with subjects such as jealousy, grief, loneliness, censorship, and even topics like imperialism.
It is not about techno babble, explanations of how warp fields or lasers work. It’s not going to talk about black holes, cloning dinosaurs, or prime directives either.
The book is speculative fiction. Not hard core sci-fi. And it could even be considered fantasy.
That being said, some of my favorite stories written by Ray Bradbury are in this collection. Including “There Will Come Soft Rains” and “The Moon Be Still As Bright”. If you are looking for a thoughtful listen that has something to say, look no further. This, and The Illustrated Man, are excellent choices.
If you’re more interested in action adventure, alien invasions or space warfare , this may not be what you’re looking for.

Great book, not so great narrator
Revisado: 01-22-25
What did I dislike? Scott Brick’s reading was, as usual, whiney, overly dramatic, and a chore to listen to.
The author is as always, amazing. This collection of loosely connected stories is among my favorites, but not as read by Scott Brick. Have listened to this edition several times since purchase, but audible is trying to block this review by stating that I hadn’t done so.

A radio dramatization of the original Star Wars film trilogy was produced in 1981, 1983, and 1996. The first two radio series, based on Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, were produced and broadcast by National Public Radio (NPR) as part of NPR Playhouse. A dramatization of Return of the Jedi was produced by most of the same team and it was also broadcast on NPR.The radio serials were made with the full cooperation of George Lucas, who, in exchange for a dollar each, sold the rights to KUSC-FM, the public radio affiliate at his alma mater, the University of Southern ...

No episode numbers are assigned to the episodes
Revisado: 07-10-24
I don’t know who was more at fault, Amazon for uploading all the episodes at once so that you could not filter which episodes were oldest/newest, or the podcast owners for not bothering to assign episode numbers to the episodes. As it is, you cannot determine what the episode play order is supposed to be, because the list of episodes is out of sequence!

Yes, Many Podcast Episodes ARE Out Of Sequence
Revisado: 10-06-22
This review is for the Critical Role podcast owned by Geek and Sundry, not the one owned by Critical Role.
Yes, the episodes are out of sequential order, sorting (on phone's audible app) by newest episode results in campaign one's episode 110 (of 115) at the top of the list. Sorting by oldest first, results in episode 34 of campaign one at the top of the list (as newest). Currently oldest episodes first are listed as: 34,33,32,31,30, 29, etc all the way (down the list) to 10, immediately followed by episode 0 of 115, and then followed by campaign 2's first episode, and then back to campaign 1's episode 48 (10 to 0 to 2.1, to 48). If sorting on webpage by oldest first results in episodes 1 to 9 missing from list, progression to episode 48 (of 115), then suddenly starting campaign 2, episodes 1 thru... Playing episode 1 from campaign 2 (which ran from early 2018 to summer 2021 ), is auto play followed by episode 48 of campaign one (spring 2015 to fall 2017).
I can only guess that Amazon/Audible uploaded the episodes in batches out of order of broadcast. The problem with this is that playing the episodes can result in the wrong episode playing next, and story/live game progression affected for the listener.
Edit: I checked the upload dates listed in the app, and episodes from campaign 1 were uploaded the same day as some of camapign 2's and various "talks machina". Explaining why everything is out of sequence when sorted.
Imho, you are probably better off listening to this on Podbean or Apple Podcasts, where no such sequential issues are present.
To Amazon/Audible rep's/tech/staff: If you are reading this, you should be aware that the Critical Role Podcast live play, is an ongoing story, and NOT a conversational podcast covering different topics from episode to episode (imagine watching something like game of thrones out of episodic order and you get the idea). Had whoever uploaded this had cared enough to bother uploading in sequential order, sorting my oldest first probably could have solved the issue. The one star rating is for the sequential errors.

Missing Episodes

Campaign 1 episodes not showing in app, while appearing when viewing on pc but with episodes out of sequence. Better off using Podbean or ITunes to listen to these podcast episodes, at least until Amazon gets it together and fixes this.

Stormy weather...
Revisado: 10-15-14
If you could sum up Chase the Storm in three words, what would they be?
Gay Jane Eyre
What did you like best about this story?
The conflicted emotions of the character Chase, a grieving widower, and how he deals with the feelings a younger man has for him.
What about Hugh Bradley’s performance did you like?
Having read the book before listening to the audio book, I enjoyed that Hugh Bradley was able to "shake off" the occasional "oh too girl-like" sound to Eli's dialogue and behavior, replacing it with a much more masculine feel. Because of Hugh Bradley's performance, the audio book version rates just a tad higher for me than the actual book does.
If you could take any character from Chase the Storm out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Chase. Loved that the character had some real depth to him.
Any additional comments?
Loved it. Loved that Chase was flawed and not some "has to be absolutely perfect as not to offend anybody" male romance character. He had the proverbial warts and wrinkles. The character felt like he could have been based on some one real. The tension (sexual and non sexual) between the two male characters was perfect! Nicely paced, and overall, was well written.
