Apparently Ms Bright thinks porn is fine for kids

Perhaps the author was just being herself or perhaps she wants everyone to think that porn for children is just fine and can be safely disregarded by adult role models. She certainly has no comprehension of the Latter-Day-Saint (Mormon) culture or family structure.

It's fine for someone to disagree with a person, an institution or an entire culture if he or she is so inclined.. However, holding said person, institution or culture up for ridicule is not fine. The only thing that it reveals is the total lack of class of the author.

I suppose this is alright for those who consider pornography a form of alternate entertainment. However, as anything approaching an objective examination of the LDS (Mormon) approach to using family and faith-based tools to help children with issues that may arise due to pornography, this title is worthless.

Unfortunately, the author apparently thought this was a terrific vehicle for preaching his version of Holy Scripture. Accordingly, he uses the various biblical prophecies as launching platforms for dissertations on what he thinks the scriptures actually mean and for repeated invitations to 'come unto Christ'.

I expected this book to be a discussion of the evidences of fulfilled prophecies in the latter days. In this respect I was sorely disappointed. There is very little actual information about fulfillment of prophecy. Again, it's largely used to tell born-again-Christians (of which I am one) "Don't worry, it will be alright" and to warn everyone else to come on board or be prepared to take what you've got coming to you. Not impressed.

For some, this may be a very satisfactory or even a somewhat necessary book. For many others, it may come across as somewhat pretentious and even insulting.

If you want to hear a very good pastor preach for a lot of hours, this book will work for you. If that doesn't really interest you, go elsewhere. Either way, do your homework before committing to this title.

By far the best version of Dracula that I have encountered in either audio-book or movie form. True to the original novel and narrated brilliantly by an all-star cast, this is a start-to-finish listen.

At once uplifting and horrifying, this version is a powerful telling of the legendary story. Not a tear-jerker in the ordinary fashion, it can nonetheless draw an emotional response from the listener.

Well worth the investment of a credit and a few hours of listening time.

Very highly recommended.

There was nothing new or revealing to me in this book, as I have believed everything the author puts forth for many, many years. Nonetheless, the memories of my many beloved cats who are waiting on the other side of the bridge kept my eyes filling throughout the narration. I'm even having trouble writing this review.

I don't know that this book is for everyone, but anyone who believes, as I do, that animals are eternal spirits will be comforted and perhaps made just a bit emotional by this story.

I heartily recommend it. It's a wonderful hour of solace and remembrance.

This is a very strange collection of questionable extra-canonical scriptural works. Some are generally accepted as proto-canonical works (Books of Enoch and Jasher), while others are virtual fairy tales, such as Daniel, Bel and the Dragon.

In fact, the final section, which is not scripture at all but the author's notes on the individual books, may be the most useful part of this collection, as it considers the timeline of each book, the possible or probable author(s), and how and where each apocryphal book fits within the accepted structure of canonical scriptures.

There are two major issues with this work: first is the author's extremely annoying habit of interjecting 'author's note(s)' into the narrative, oftentimes completely destroying the flow of the narrative; second, and perhaps even more irritating, is the narrator's inability to correctly pronounce biblical names and locations. One would hope that someone chosen by the producers of this audio-book to narrate the work would be required to have at least a passing familiarity with biblical history and the associated languages and geographic locations. Sadly, this apparently was not the case, resulting in a very negative impact on the clarity of the work and an almost constant irritation of the listener's sensibility to biblical history.

Overall, the work is interesting to those who truly desire this information. For potential casual listeners, it is not worth the investment of either money, credits or time.

Sadly, not recommended.

I'm not certain what I just listened to, but it wasn't the King James Version of the Holy Bible. That being said, there is a lot to be enjoyed in listening to this audio-book. The narrator maintains a crisp, vibrant pace. He is easy to comprehend and uses appropriate and valid changes in voice and emphasis to keep the story of the bible alive and enjoyable to listen to.

I really wish there was a true KJV audio-book out there but, until I find one, this one will do.

I am usually rather lenient with narrators. They have a difficult job and, as we all know, you can't make everyone happy.

However, with the Holy Bible, that leniency comes to a screeching halt. Not everyone can be an expert but, if you are going to narrate an audio version of holy scripture, you should at least research the correct pronunciation of biblical names and places. As if that isn't enough, this isn't the King James Version, but someone's perhaps sarcastic impression of what the KJV should sound like. Where in the Bible have you ever heard an ancient personage ask, "Why have you searched through all my 'stuff'?" Well, you'll hear it here.

The publishers should be ashamed of themselves, and so should Audible. This travesty should no be available for sale.

Possible caveat: Audible may have known how offensive this book would be to many students of scripture, be they serious or casual listeners. Audible makes no allowance for returning this book if the purchaser is dissatisfied.

This is an excellent book, both in written and audio form. It provides exactly what one would expect from the title; a very thorough examination of July and August 1914, with a brief overview of the conclusion of the war and the final efforts of the principles, in diplomatic terms, not the concluding battles. It also contains a surprisingly thorough overview of the Balkan conflicts that set the stage for the World War.

The narrator is superb but is undercut by a major misjudgment on the part of the author. A significant number of important and, apparently, revealing comments by various concerned parties are rendered in French, with no clarifying information for those who speak English, German or other languages. This is probably not a major concern but it leads to frustration and a certain degree of resentment on the part of those who would really like to know what was said and what, if any, enlightenment may have been contained in said comments.

Nonetheless, this remains a superior look at how Europe stumbled its way from a serious diplomatic incident into a much more serious armed conflict. Very highly recommended.

As military historians go, Martin Gilbert is among the best, and this book reflects that. The First World War manages to be impressively thorough without bogging down in minutia. It's only weaknesses are the nearly total disregard for peripheral theaters of the war (understandable) and an annoying and far less understandable glossing over of the naval war. Other than the submarine war, one might come away with the impression that the many minor navies and even, to a lesser extent, the German and British fleets had little or nothing to do with the conflict. Even the massive and critical engagement at Jutland is largely glossed over. However, these are relatively minor problems in the overall picture.

The narrator leaves a lot to be desired. He goes out of his way to ensure that French names and locations are pronounced correctly while repeatedly mispronouncing Russian, German and even English names. This becomes outright annoying at times.

Nonetheless, this book is well worth the investment in time needed to listen to it. Those who are unfamiliar with the details of the First World War will find it to be most informative. Those with a solid grounding in that conflict will find his or her understanding increased in both scope and depth.

Highly recommended.

Radio wasn't always superior

Most science fiction aficionados of the 1950s and 1960s era movies and television will know this story, as it is still considered one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time.

While the performers of this radio drama do an excellent job and the script writers did the best they could, the time limitations imposed by the radio play format were fatal to this production. The story is far too truncated to be effective on its own. For a first time listener unfamiliar with the movie, there are far too many holes and too much critical information is missing for the story to make sense.

The verdict: This radio play is good enough to listen to - once. Other than that, stick to the movie.

Not recommended.
