Important historical novel that can teach.
Revisado: 10-12-19
The is a very moving story spread over many generations. It starts in Africa during slave trading and seems to be an accurate account of how things might have been. Many of the stories of the characters take place in Africa and many take place in America. The cruelty & horror of being a slave is portrayed well, as is the aftermath of racism and white privilege. It was very difficult to hear and has some very sad moments. It should be required reading to help people understand race relations in America, but sadly, the people who need that education the most, won’t be so inclined.

Good performance
Revisado: 10-04-19
Dark & creepy, but kept me interested, if a bit predictable. Found myself rooting for the main character, Joe, even though he is a terrible person.
The performance was good. Worth a credit.

Different!
Revisado: 09-29-19
Different than the usual end of the world/apocalypse story. No zombies, evil groups, etc. Basically, ordinary people in an extraordinarily situation. I enjoyed the performance and development of the characters. I’d be interested in a sequel to see what happens next.
Great listen! Was sorry it ended.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Interesting story, but dragged during many parts, due to too much scientific detail (in my opinion).

Very moving.
Revisado: 07-23-19
This is an emotionally, moving book. Very dark in parts, as well as quirky, funny & charming. Eleanor has been through a great deal that is gradually revealed throughout the book. She’s an odd one who has difficulties with relationships with coworkers and others she encounters. Someone who is laughed at due to her peculiarities. Makes you remember to think about what one might be going through before judging. She seems accustomed to her lonely life, but things slowly change as the story advances and she begins to take charge of her life. The narrator does an excellent job portraying Eleanor. You really feel for Eleanor and want the best for her. You are left hopeful for her.
Excellent storytelling l.

Hillary Jordan's mesmerizing debut novel won the Bellwether Prize for fiction. A powerful piece of Southern literature, Mudbound takes on prejudice in its myriad forms on a Mississippi Delta farm in 1946. City girl Laura McAllen attempts to raise her family despite questionable decisions made by her husband. Tensions continue to rise when her brother-in-law and the son of a family of sharecroppers both return from WWII as changed men bearing the scars of combat.

Powerful book
Revisado: 07-19-19
This was a very good book with excellent narration by a cast of performers. At times, very difficult to listen to the level of racism present in post WWII Mississippi. A black decorated hero returning from war, treated like an animal at home. The whites that felt the unfairness of the situation, were racist as well... much like what we see going on today in 2019. Makes you reflect, wondering why we
haven’t come as far as we would have liked to come, knowing that we sadly have not. A heart wrenching story at times. Definitely worth s credit.

Very good short story
Revisado: 07-16-19
I had no expectations regarding this short story and enjoyed it quite a bit. An intriguing story read by a very good performer. Only problem was that it’s too short! Would have loved to hear more. I’ll look for more from this author.

Recently watched the 3 Starz series: White Queen, White Princess & Spanish Princess. Enjoyed them a great deal & decided to listen to this story about the white queen’s mother. Not sure how historically accurate they all may be, but very good overall. I may now listen to the other books their series are based upon.
