This is a fun holiday spin off of Pride and Prejudice. You’ll like the characters even more and understand Darcy’s friend Dy more if you read Pamela’s first few books, but you can definitely read this as a stand alone novel as well.

My favorite Heyer novel

This has got to be my favorite Heyer novel and the narrator completely nailed it. Great voices for Kitty and Freddy. Just a lot of fun!

The Scarlet Pimpernel makes an appearance!

Best Pride and Prejudice spin-off I’ve ever read. Clean/PG which is nice because there are many spin-off that are not! The narration was excellent, but I didn’t love the voices he used for Darcy and Elizabeth. They weren’t awful, just not to my liking. The added characters are actually my favorite part of this series: Darcy’s man Fletcher and also Darcy’s friend Brougham (sp?) who is a Scarlet Pimpernel if there ever was one! I’m really looking forward to the next book A Proper Darcy Christmas where, according to the synopsis, he reappears to save the day.

Hilarious and a great story!

The narrator, the author, does such a good job we we laughing out loud and we now find ourselves oft quoting the Glorch (the antagonist) in the author’s silly voice for her. It’s not just hilarious, though. This is the kind of book I wish I’d read when I was young and afraid at night- the kind of book that teaches you (in a totally fun and NOT preachy way) to face your fears. My husband and I love it and we’ll be reading it (or listening to it!) with our kids!

Dana changed my life

Dana’s first book (How to Manage your Home without Losing your Mind) changed my life last year. This year, her new book Decluttering at the Speed of Life has changed me even more- and all for the better. I’ve been married 7 years and have two preschool-aged kids at home with me. I often find my inner-self accusing, “You should know how to do this by now” about basic life skills like keeping a home tidy and clean. But that’s not a helpful mindset! It is such a freedom to name something as challenge for you (even if it’s not for other people) and accept help! I’ve been so blessed by the advice in these two books. God has really used them to help me get a better handle on running my home and to make more time for more important things like enjoying my family! One thing that really struck me was that my desires changed: I no longer want to hold on to (as many) things for “maybe” or “someday” or other reasons, because I truly do value having a more functional, lovely, and peaceful home for myself and my husband, and especially for my kids to grow up in! Thanks, Dana! And everyone else- get this book! ;)

PS. Her narration of the book is clear and pleasant. I love her podcast and recommend that as well!

Not just for kids!

This book was so interesting and, especially at the end, exciting, that I stayed up way too late to finish listening to it. But it was totally worth it! And when my kids are preteens they will get to enjoy this book too!
