Historia
It is the fall of 1951 and the Korean War is raging. Nicholai Hel has spent the last three years in solitary confinement at the hands of the Americans. Hel is a master of hoda korosu or "naked kill," fluent in seven languages, and has honed extraordinary "proximity sense" - an extra awareness of the presence of danger. He has the skills to be the world's most fearsome assassin and now the CIA needs him. The Americans offer Hel freedom, money, and a neutral passport in exchange for one small service: go to Beijing and kill the Soviet Union's Commissioner to China.

Excellent prequel to Trevanian’s “Shibumi!” Really hope Don Winslow will agree to write more novels based on Nicholai Hel.

What? Who?
Revisado: 09-23-22
Love most of the Alistair MacLean novels but this one is bad on so many different levels. It’s supposed to be about Americans but no one in the novel sounds or acts like an American. Plot is one long series of sequences the are ludicrous.

A Bit Hard to Handle
Revisado: 02-15-20
Very well written and with a host of interesting characters but also very hardcore graphic in it's violence and negative view on the world. Perhaps this is the Godfather for the 21st Century in many ways but often it portrays a world that seems without hope of redemption.

Epic Story of The Day After Tomorrow
Revisado: 02-04-20
Upon finishing "Red Metal" my first thought was; "how long do we have to wait for a sequel." It's that good! The writers put you in the middle of the action around the world with characters that ring true and create an emotional attachment to their plight. Listened to it mostly while running and it made the time go very quickly! That is a good thing!

Pritchard and Clancy Make a Great Team
Revisado: 11-10-18
I've read this novel and listened to the Audible version several times over the years. One of my favorite Clancy novels and I prefer all of them read by Michael Pritchard. Apparently there are others who don't care for his style but he has been one of my favorite audio book performers for many years beginning with the great Travis Magee novels by John D. McDonald. Based on the other Audible reviews I've read, apparently I'm in the minority but that does change my opinion about this fabulous team of Clancy & Pritchard.

Classic and Every Best Way Possible
Revisado: 03-01-18
Where does I Am Legend rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I can't believe Audible offered this novel free of charge! I'd read it years ago and remember liking it very much but hearing it recently really brought home how good this book is. Richard Matheson was a great writer but perhaps under appreciated because of the poor film adaptions to his work.
Have you listened to any of Robertson Dean’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
First time I've listened to a novel performed by Mr. Dean. He did a wonderful job and I will be looking for other work by him.
Any additional comments?
Beyond an interest in science fiction, I'd recommend this novel to anyone interested in being fascinated and entertained in their reading. I was fortunate to get this free but would gladly have paid for it.

Historia
A serial murderer known only by a grotesquely apt nickname—Buffalo Bill—is stalking women. He has a purpose, but no one can fathom it, for the bodies are discovered in different states. Clarice Starling, a young trainee at the FBI Academy, is surprised to be summoned by Jack Crawford, chief of the Bureau's Behavioral Science section. Her assignment: to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter—Hannibal the Cannibal—who is kept under close watch in the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

Best Read with Company at Hand
Revisado: 09-26-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Had read the novel and seen the film before reading again via Audible. Even though I remembered the story very well, it was as if it were a new experience. Great story with memorable characters resulting in a modern classic.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It's a book filled with memorable characters but the "favorite" must be a couple not an individual. The scenes with Clarise and Hannibal are spellbinding.
What about Frank Muller’s performance did you like?
He is very good but I have to admit I had a bit of a problem listening to this recording when driving that I don't typically have with other readers. In a quite room with no distractions, however, he was perfect.
If you could rename The Silence of the Lambs, what would you call it?
Hannibal Falls in Love.
Any additional comments?
Thomas Harris is a very skilled writer and I wish he had expanded his work beyond the his first novel, "Black Sunday" and the Hannibal Lector novels.

Historia
Dirk Struan rose from humble beginnings to build Struan & Company, also known as the Noble House, into the world’s largest Far East trading company. He is now the Tai-Pan—Supreme Leader—of all Tai-Pans in China. Along the way, however, he made a powerful enemy. Tyler Brock, Struan’s rival from their early opium-smuggling days, also heads a large trading fleet, second in size only to Struan’s. But it is not only silks and spices that drive their mutual companies’ wealth—the opium trade is still booming.

The 2nd Time Around
Revisado: 06-19-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Tai-Pan to be better than the print version?
Both are epic and great reading experiences.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Too many to mention in so short a space.
What about Gildart Jackson’s performance did you like?
Perhaps the best read novel I've ever heard of the many I've listened to over the years.
Any additional comments?
I've read all the print Clavell novels and enjoyed them. After hearing Tai-Pan, I know I'll be enjoying the 2nd time around via audio versions.
