Historia
Vera Wong is a lonely little old lady—ah, lady of a certain age—who lives above her forgotten tea shop in the middle of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Despite living alone, Vera is not needy, oh no. She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her Gen-Z son is up to. Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing—a dead man in the middle of her tea shop.

She did what?? Good for her!!
Revisado: 01-10-25
This author should NOT have read/performed her own book! She read without expression and barely kept up with periods. I am proud of her for her accomplishments but so much was lost in the story telling.

Ugh!
Revisado: 01-10-25
I did not like the mixing of all the stories which was not necessary since none of the women met. It was hard for “me” to keep up with who was doing what. Where was the editor?

In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.

Boring!!
Revisado: 02-07-24
It was an awful story about a woman’s young love life. It was hard enough to live through our own stupid loves. To listen to another’s. Ugh! If it wasn’t for my bookclub I would have stopped earlier in the story.

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

A very interesting life
Revisado: 06-04-23
The truth of one’s upbringing can be filled with atrocities but healing for one’s self and others. The repetition of some of the daunting story line could have been avoided by emphasizing the point differently. The editor should have caught that.
Some points are necessary for people to hear i.e. the bias of the variation of skin color in society and even within one’s family is an interesting concept. (In the book The Help, Cicley Tyson daughter could pass for white but in the movie a darker skin actor played the role. Which made the luncheon scene unbelievable.)
Viola is such a fine actress it’s hard to believe she can’t get leading roles because of the her coloring. Her story is brutality honest and revealing. I enjoyed it and recommend it.

Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

It’s a rough life
Revisado: 03-02-19
Part of her charm is her rough life but I’m not sure all the cussing is necessary. I’m glad she made it and that she has people in her life pulling her up because she needs to be proud of herself and that’s hard when you came from so way down.

I liked that by the time I finished I was emotionally involved wondering what would happen. I didn’t like that she repeated herself several times and I found myself saying...yes you told me that. I was surprised at some of the skirmishes, realistic??? Umm. Overall delightful.
