Any additional comments?

I've never read H.G. Wells before and I'm very glad I did. Although I always knew how women had few personal rights before given the right to vote (and even decades after), this book really drew a believable image of how it really was for women back then. It makes you wonder how our great and great-great grandmothers were able to survive in a society where male dominance ruled the day - every day. This book gives you a realistic snapshot of what it was like for women back then. Very interesting read. I love books that you think about after you finish them.

What did you love best about Jane Eyre [Brilliance Edition]?

Pretty much everything. I loved Jane's strength, intelligence, determination and especially the kindness she gave to others.I kept picturing Orson Welles who played Edward-Fairfax-Rochester in the 1943 version of this book. He did a fabulous job in the movie and that only enriched the story in my minds eye.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Jane Eyre [Brilliance Edition]?

There we so many, it's very hard to choose. The story was so beautiful and moving, I came to tears many times. I plan to read the actual novel so I can savor it at my leisure.

Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen – was your favorite?

I thought she did a really good job with all characters, especially Jane.

Any additional comments?

If you have never read this book, here are just a couple of quotes to pique your interest:

“Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong! - I have as much soul as you, - and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you!”

or

“Good-night, my-" He stopped, bit his lip, and abruptly left me.”

Wuthering Heights has been one of my favorite books for many years, and I love it still, but this is now the on top of my list.

Wow! What talent those Bronte sisters!

Where does The Sea of Grass rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very high up in my opinion. The author was very poetic and descriptive. I felt like I was right there in the late 19th century, on a cattle ranch in New Mexico. The story is about ranchers, whose cattle range freely through the sea of grass, and the farmers, or "nesters," who build fences and turn the sod.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hard to say. Each character was very interesting in their own right.

Have you listened to any of Norman Dietz’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I never have. His performance was wonderful. Great voice and great reading style. I'll be looking for more from Norman Dietz.

If you could take any character from The Sea of Grass out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Hal. He was most observant and had the most realistic observations. He saw the truth.

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this book. I could listen to it again.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

No. Not really. Easy to navigate.

Would you be willing to try another book from Daphne Du Maurier? Why or why not?

Of course. She's a wonderful writer and weaves a good tale. I've read almost all her works except for these short stories.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

This was tough for me to get through. The reading was ok, but her way of expression was not for me. Sounded pretentious and a little over the top. I prefer narration to be more believable. I would hire another narrator.

Did The Doll inspire you to do anything?

No.
