Historia
The year is 1989. America has just invaded Noriega's Panama. And Specialist Bennett's platoon of Cav Scouts are in country… with, frankly, not a whole lot to do. Until a freak rainstorm somehow transports the entire platoon—Humvees, weapons, and all—to another world. A world controlled by a wicked Aztec god. The Land of the Black Sun. In a heartbeat, the Scouts find themselves fighting for their lives against savage beasts, witches, zombies, subhuman tribes seeking sacrifices… and even themselves.

Excellent character and world building. This is really fun listen and hard to shut off. Mark Boyett did an incredible job narrating and depicting all the different characters. Just purchased book II and hoping for many more.

Excellent narration
Revisado: 03-25-25
So far these stories are quite incredible. The narrators have been very passionate about "their" life stories: they come across as very convincing and very interesting.

Historia
100,000 years ago the object hit the lake at the deepest point, quickly sinking into its mile-deep Stygian darkness. The sheets of ice closed, time moved on and the land forgot. But over the centuries, legends grew of people vanishing, of strange, deformed animals and of an unexplained luminescence down in the lake depths. When Marcus Stenson won the lucrative contract to create a sturgeon fish farm on the site of disused paper mill on the shore of Lake Baikal, he thought he had won the lottery and refused to listen to the chilling folktales....

A very interesting and engrossing story.
Revisado: 03-20-25
I really enjoyed this. The story was unique to me and kept me wanting to listen into the wee hours of the night. It would make a great movie, and although this is a stand alone book, it would be cool if the was a sequel. There's plenty of intrigue as well as good creepy syfy. I have to say it took me a while to get used to the kind of "breathy" narration, but I eventually did and again, the story itself gets so engrossing that I stopped paying any attention to the tone.

I downloaded this just as a filler book, but am so glad I did. The story had twists and turns and was very interesting, it kept me engaged and wanting to know what halogens next. The author did am excellent job of also narrating, as did Nicola Walker. Definitely worth a listen.

Fun narration / fun story
Revisado: 10-13-24
It was a fun and unique story; and the actors did an excellent job. I wish they'd not spoken some of the small parts in Spanish: anyone who listens to this, understands English - many do not understand Spanish and since it's verbal only - there's no closed caption translation to read - kind of takes away from the flow. They also could have done without the singing/wailing part at the funeral, it was just unnecessarily too long.
Anyway, side from those little things - it was a fun listen.

One of my very favorite series
Revisado: 06-26-24
This is one of those series that has it all: a talking dog that is hysterical, a demi-god taking cat, a snarky little gin, wizards, knights, secret societies, different time lines, etc, etc. All around it's just a really fun listen and my only disappointment is when I get to the end and know I'll have to wait for the next.
This story followed in sequence with the others, same tempo and awesome narration! Going into the nether to fund more unique and dangerous creatures. And now, trying to patiently wait for the next.
