I read a lot of these pop-sci books and I really appreciated that this one didn't treat me like an idiot. I was familiar with most of the terminology already and this exploration of how the theories fit together was the next level of thinking about these concepts. Dr Kinney succeeds at giving me much to ponder without insulting my intelligence.

Confused mass of mixed tropes

I love this genre, and I've read a gazillion similar books, and this picks the worst and least compatible tropes from many and splices then together slightly incoherently. for example, they talk about how they can't wait to build space fighters, which would make no tactical sense in space. They have fantastic AI tech but people are literally moving fuel around star ships by pushing buttons. They also talked about seeing laser beams being fired at them, but there was a delay to impact because of light delay. How is that possible? They detect a laser beam if and when it hits them. they can't watch it coming in. anyway.

I love the way I feel like I could have stepped into the page and seen the world, the people, the aliens and monsters. The narrator was fantastic too!

The story started out great, had an interesting premise. But it goes nowhere. I'm sorry, I wanted to like it. Narrator is excellent as always.

story rips a bit off of the matrix and reamde, but I suppose everything about simulated people would. I'm hoping there's at least a fourth book though. kind of an open ending.

Poignant point for modern times

Eerily so. The story weaves the previous series in via some crazy new fangled plot devices that are well above the simple trope of having the characters relive it in flashbacks, (no spoilers.) The sanity and logic of the reasoning expounded by the author, in a, date I say, believable story, given a few premises we'll just go ahead and overlook, like interdimensional travel, is well done. And, as can always be expected by the narrator, the performance was exceptional!

loved the book, hate the cliffhanger

The witty timbre of this series continues apace, and I've probably been more on the edge of my seat with this installment more than any of the last. RC Bray is amazing and perfect for the story, though his portrayal of female characters is sufficient, his dripping wet alpha dog falsetto adds a little unintended humor at times. I'm now shocked and awed by how the story.. didn't actually end. Oh well. this is the sound of me buying the next book.

Story was weak for the series

I wanted more of this universe and more of the characters while I wait for book three of the main sun eater to come out. It was disappointing. The performance was first rate, as is par for this narrator. I just felt like the author confused Crispin and Hadrian and there wasn't much of a reason for it other than at one brief point, he ruminates that "he must have remembered more than he thought," of what his tutor, Gibson, had taught him. Meh.

I love this series and loved this book

The story is riveting, thought provoking, and even the narrators digressions are pure gold. The performance is top shelf and I'm anxiously awaiting the next books release!
