Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Unnecessarily long winded with little deptg
Revisado: 09-04-23
I found it overly long winded, the characters were rather 2 dimensional, this teen protagonist did what he did because the story demanded it of him not because of any organic drive rising from his characterization. Plodding and uninspired, at best. Contrived and boring at worst.

Historia
In February 1989, science fiction writer Piers Anthony, author of the Xanth series, received a moving letter. It came from a woman whose daughter, Jenny, was in a coma as a result of severe injuries caused by a drunk driver. She asked Anthony to write to Jenny, an avid fan of his, in the hope that a letter from him would evoke some response. Her request resulted in a series of warm, supportive, and humorous letters written weekly from Anthony to Jenny. These were read to the patient by her mother.

A beautiful account of peirs making sense of tradgey and justifying his role in a young girl's partial recovery from a tragic accident. As a lifelong fan of Anthony, this means more to me than most.

It was well written, I liked the narrator. Nothing special, decent entry point for a series. Shockingly short. I was surprised.

I appreciate the legacy, but this was a slow read. Very by the numbers. I understand the history of fantasy literature and the place this series holds. Let's just say I'm glad I've read it once.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Good spot to start
Revisado: 06-13-20
I noticed that it was written with a lot of focus on the white individual. And a lot of the black voice was represented as a group... Which is something I was confused about because the opposite argument was being made.
I will need to hear more and from a black perspective. It was a great jumping off point. Good for concise and direct observations that were sometimes difficult to hear. If you're white and willing to listen and learn this is a fantastic place to start. 3.5/5 ⭐
Now go out into the world and don't be a freaking woke scold... You vowed to do better not to teach. 😇

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Stephen King luxuriates in the character work, but falls flat at the end. Typical King.
