I saw this on a sale recently and I recognized Joel Froomkin's name because I absolutely loved another series he narrated so I gave it a shot. I absolutely loved this, and I really hope there is more of this series coming (hopefully with Froomkin's vocal accompaniment again).

I'm surprised that this doesn't have more ratings and reviews, honestly, but I see that the audiobook is relatively recent, so I must contribute.
I really enjoyed this book and the narration, and I hope to read more from this author and the voice actor. Zavrius in particular was such a fun character to hear, though I did wish for Balen to get his head out of his ass because he seemed to be dreadfully clueless in several respects, despite supposedly being such a powerful and "well-trained" warrior. Also, one other note: I absolutely love the cover art, and I hope that artist was very well compensated since the gorgeous combination of passion and softness really catches the eye in a sea of very much less appealing (i.e. boring) m/m fiction covers.
I see that there's another book coming out following Oren on a mission in the neighboring country, and I'm very much looking forward to it.

The syrupy MC was painful

I usually don't leave bad reviews if I can help it, but the voice acting for the MC was extremely distracting for me. I liked the plot well enough, though I kinda felt like the romance of the main pair was weirdly rushed and had little development since it kinda just showed up with barely any interaction or signs of attraction before that. The plot itself and the magic system were interesting, thankfully, but the irritation of the sugary delivery in some of the scenes made me roll my eyes so many times I was contemplating leaving the book on the DNF pile entirely. He's a good voice actor, and the secondary main was perfectly fine to listen to but the sugary smiling voice through most of the MCs scenes at the beginning really got under my skin. Sorry for being too much of a curmudgeon about it when it's a decent enough book.

EXCELLENT AS ALWAYS YOU MONSTER, gotta make me cry at work with all the emotional turmoil in this dang book. I've read all of her books and they always do this to me.

Didn't finish it. I gave it multiple chapters but I really didn't care for it, the characters were extremely irritating and the dialogue was excruciating to listen to.

one of my favorite reads in a long time

I really appreciated every single character in this book but especially the women, every single one of them was a strong voice and getting stronger and by the end of the book I was in love with every single one of them. this is a setting that I haven't seen in a lot of books and I loved every second of it. I'm really looking forward to reading more of this author's work, and it had me really wanting to read more about history and culture in the Middle East/ this part of Asia.

I loved it, the story is just as wonderful as Temeraire and Uprooted. The ending made me smile so much my face hurts.

Second Time Reading It In Three Months Time!

I loved this book so much that I had to read it again already, and the actress seemingly adds authenticity to it with her accent, making Agnieszka feel more real and so friendly.
